4th Gen Rear end?

Is a 4th gen rear end a direct swap into a 3rd gen? I found a really good deal on a 4th gen rear w/discs.

Yes it is. Depending on what year the 4th gen rear is from it will just make your wheels sit out alittle.

Re: 4th Gen Rear end?

We could give you the answer, but we'd be doing you a dis-service, by doing that.

If you you'll find that answer has existed long before TGO even did. It has been asked, and answered, well over a thousand times.

Its also a good feeling to know that you can answer your own questions, without having to ask people.

Good. Hopefully I annoy you enough that you learn to find things on your own, rather than having everything handed to you.

Hopefully you learn, that in a car community, questions are going to be repeated.

I've even posted my FULL names & address here on this site.....No anonymity going on here.

You wanna repeat sticky questions...Be my guest. But the TGO Moderators might have a problem with you continuously doing that.

Sorry I tried to help you develop a BRAIN & develop the ability to help yourself. Sorry.... I didn't realize you were totally incapable of finding even the simplest answers for yourself. Maybe you'll find someone here willing to hold your hand & lead you step by step in everything here.

BTW.....The answer that was given to you above? Not entirely correct, so it doesn't help you any.

Re: 4th Gen Rear end?

Name one thing that isn't direct about the swap.

Panhard Bar
Stocks
Sway Bar
Rear Control Arms
Springs
Torque Arm
Driveshaft

They all fit a 4th gear rear without any modification. I've done the swap personally and it was direct for me. The only thing that requires alittle work is the emergency brake cables.

You don't list anything about brakes, of any kind......

You can BOLT one in, but it ain't finished at that point.

Re: 4th Gen Rear end?

What about the brakes? Hook your lines up and bleed them. You may need a proportional valve to help balance the pressure between the front and the rear. Not too hard...

The fact is this isn't a hard swap. Very little complication, besides busting those old rusty bolts not a lot is involved.

And what did you do for the e-brake? Or is just loose?

I know WHAT needs to be addressed for everything....I'm not asking because I need to know.

I'm asking to point out issues that weren't addressed.

Re: 4th Gen Rear end?

Stephen,

Your very persistence. I feel your need to be thorough though.

Anyway,

I enlarged the holes on the emergency brake cable bracket located in the trans tunnel, which allow you to use the 4th gen e-brake cables.

Re: 4th Gen Rear end?

4th gen rear is 2 inches wider per side. thirdgen wheels are a 0mm offset. whereas a 4th gen has a 50mm positive offset.

Only the front 16" wheels are a 0mm offset. The rears are 16mm positive.

And a stock 3rd gen 16" wheel, on a 4th gen axle, will still fit under the wheel lip & not out past the edge.
