Goodbye Pontiac.
Well, it's official. The world economy has claimed yet another brand, and following the likes of Polaroid, Sharper Image, and Circuit City, the almighty car manufacturer Pontiac will soon be no more. Here's to the 2010 Pontiac Firebird. A car that never was, and never will be.
Will someone please tell me why the %&#* Saturn is still around if Pontiac is gone?

It's very sad, and you have to believe that GM has been planning this for years as the Camaro has been on the drawing board for 5 years and we have only heard whispers about a firebird! <Sigh> So sad.....

I read a statement from a Pontiac exec who said they put out fresh exciting products but sales kept falling. Was it a pricing problem? The Solstice is one sports car I would love to own...especially after reading the Hot Rod Magazine series where they transplanted an LS7.

It is sad. I'm glad to own one and that the big brother of a Camaro is still going to live. At least there is still hope for the F-body is some way.

What I dont understand is that they are getting rid of the brand a year and a half from now?!?! Gotta think thats going to hurt sales, with people thinking the brand isnt going to be around anymore....

Re: Goodbye Pontiac.
They're SELLING Saturn. Some other company will get the Sky. Aren't they made in the same plants? How will that work? Will it just become the Chevy Sky? Kinda like the Dodge Neon or the Dodge PT Cruiser? Alas, poor Plymouth, we knew ye well.
I do suppose selling Pontiac would be impossible, given that I believe that GM is only dealing with wholly-owned subsidiaries, leaving Opel, Suzuki, Holden, and other partnerships that the General has completely off the table. Which is good. I like the crazy aussie cars making it to the US. I just think they should have found a way to keep Pontiac going. It's been a staple of the GM lineup, and it's been the only line they've been importing Holdens into.

Re: Goodbye Pontiac.
Will the madness never stop!! I thought the solstice/sky was a holden product? I know the G8 was.... I liked the overseas version of the G8 better anyways!! (You could get the ls-7 in it for only $9,000 more... hows that for value?)
Yeah, the Impala sucks. Hate fwd!! Think thats why they dont sell that well. At least the old caprice/impala was rwd!!!

Re: Goodbye Pontiac.
Pontiac Solstice, Opel GT, Saturn Sky.
Same "car platform." Basically the same body/drivetrain with different panels.
Whoever purchases Opel will purchase Saturn. And begin producing the Sky/GT. With Pontiac being no more.

Will they get rights to the name? Last time I can think of that happening is when chrysler purchased jeep... (Well, last time I can think of that happening to a MAJOR brand, anyways.)
