Im located in new mexico so i hope this is the right area to post in, but i recently got a 91 z28 5 spd car, i was told it has a 350 but its a 305 unless someone swapped it out. it says it has 170,000 miles so i would like to rebuild the engine, its not currently running and needs parts, if anyone would like to donate parts to me ill pay for shipping. anything you dont need or just have laying around, ill even pay a little money for them, im kinda broke though. thanks and god bless.

i could use any parts that will fit for the engine, exhausts, i need screws and bolts to bolt the intake back on and some other things in the engine bay. side mirrors, shifter *****, shifter boots, seats, anything really.

Between Jason and I, we probably have what you need. Did you ever figure out if your fuel pump was bad or what did you find out?

im having a guy come look at it tomorrow, he thinks its just a relay between the pump and the battery so ya, if its not the pump i could get back some money and prolly not unless it was really worth it.

What ever you do, Please do not cut the body. There are many things that can go wrong with it if you do and it's not the right way to do it. May be easier in the future, but how many times are you changing the pump? Maybe once every 7 years? So, let's hope it's not the pump anyway. Let me know what you find. And still check fuel pressure.

I agree. If it fired even for a few seconds, then you are getting fuel pressure. Maybe not enough, but you need to check the fuel pressure.

we changed the fuel relay switch and now it starts right up, it still will overheat though, my brother thinks the plug in the bottom of the radiator is gone cuz he poured antifreeze in it and it just drained out real nice and tidy like there was a hole. but it does start and probably drives.

If it's missing the plug, you might want to just replace the whole thing. You don't really know what else could be wrong with it. Also might want to flush out the engine with water. Might help get some old crap out.

Yay! It lives! I would replace the radiator. They are pretty cheap at autozone or checker. Overheating could be just from the lack of coolant. Also, be ready to replace the water pump. After sitting for that long, they tend to go bad. While you are getting the new radiator, ask to borrow a "Cooling system pressure-tester" It replaces the radiator cap and pressurizes the cooling system to test for leaks. (It is also used to diagnose a bad head gasket) Just fill the new radiator up with water and pump away. You may have gotten lucky. Also, a new thermostat is a good idea, and they are cheap.

how do i flush out the engine with water? and how much is a radiator usually? a water pump? a thermostat?

the radiator is thrashed, holes everywhere idk why but there is, my mom went to the junkyard to get one and they only had one out of a 89 camaro, they said it was too short. He said he will get me one out of a truck will that work? they said $55 plus trade in on my old radiator.

No the truck radiator wont work. The one from the 89 camaro will. I wouldnt get a used one though. Get a new one. it will cost you around 120.oo and will come with a LIFETIME warranty!! These cars can be hard on radiators. You dont need another old radiator, get a new one.

To flush the engine with water, you will need to remove the plugs on the bottom sides of the blocks just above the oil pan. On one side (passenger side) is the knock sensor (you will see this just in front of the starter). Remove this and the one on the driver side in just about the same location. After you put the new radiator in, put a garden hose in the radiator filler hole and run the water for a few minutes. Turn off the water and let it drain out. You may want it to dry up under the car before you put the plug and knock sensor back in. Don't forget to reconnect the single wire to the knock sensor and then drain the radiator. Close the radiator drain plug and fill the system with coolant and water mix. That's just about it. I would be a good idea to change the water pump as well before you put coolant into it. The pumps are generally about $35 from Autozone and have a lifetime warranty. They come with gaskets. Make sure you clean the gasket area completely before installing the new pump and gaskets. Use a little RTV on the gaskets (a little, just a thin coat on both sides to help it seal better). A thermostat costs about $15 but is alway a good precaution. Don't forget that gasket too. Then fill the system with coolant and water mix. Run the car to heat it up with the heater on until at normal operating temperature. Let cool down and recheck the coolant level and add what is necessary.

alright thank you, ill pick one up today after school, the pump and thermostat will have to wait though, and ill definately flush out the engine.

I think thats all thats wrong with the car, the engine is swapped, its a 350, the head gaskets are fine my brother said, the fuel pump wasnt bad. the guy i bought it from was retarded, his hole family is. sad but true, so i got a camaro for $400 that only cost me about $150 to fix, just a relay and radiator and of course new oil and filters and stuff.

ya i got the best mom besides, i had $100 to spend, i spent $15 on the relay and my mom is gonna lend me money to buy radiator, I get $20 off my next purchase at autozone too so ya the radiator will be $100. she will lend me more though, ill pay her back when the maro is runnin and i sell my other car. the radiator will be in next thursday cuz they didnt have one in stock.

Cool! Let us know. I would do the thermostat at least. the reason the radiator leaked was most likely due to extreme corrosion. The thermostat is most likely in the same condition.

i replaced the radiator with a brand new one and the antifreeze still leaks out, my bro said it leaks out of the block?

Well, there are a lot of places that coolant can leak out. Where on the engine is it leaking from? (Front/back/drivers side, etc) If it's the front, look at the water pump. If the passengers side, look at your heater hoses. If the drivers side look at your temp sender. You need to be a lot more descriptive.

its dripping in the rear on the drivers side where the tail pipe would be if it had one, and its also dripping under the car, in the front above the front tire but towards the middle of the car and more on the drivers side. not a real bad drip but a pretty decent one, the one in the front isnt bad but the one in the back is.


EDIT: cracked block on drivers side, there is a pretty decent size hole in the shape of an L, going to get JB weld maybe it will work if not, $600 for someone to come get it and take it away. pm me if you want it.

anyone know if the jb weld will work? it says for steel, and engine blocks on the pack. my bro said he did it to his chevelle when he was in highschool and it worked good. also the bushings are messed up on the car as well.

You might want to check to see if it's a freeze plug. Freeze plugs are pretty cheap and are just labor intensive to get in. In the back, you'll have to remove the transmission and the flexplate. Then pop the bad one out (DO NOT LEAVE IT IN THE BLOCK) and get the new one in. Be sure to put locktite on the outer side of the plug to get it to seal and seat properly. Could probably get a new one for about $2. Also, stay away from the rubber ones. Go with brass if you can, but the steel ones work just as well.
