State Sen. Thayer Verschoor, R-Gilbert, the main sponsor of the speed limit bill, Senate Bill 1221, said that increasing the speed limit in rural Arizona makes sense because most people are already driving an average of 80 mph.

That's cool, but.........the cops are going to pull you over for doing 81 in an 80. And with my luck it'll be a $100 fine for every mile over the speed limit you are going!

sweet.

that means you can probably get away with almost 90 before highway patrol is going to pull you over.

90mph

that rocks.

They should also put on the left side of the highway signs that state a minimum speed to be traveling in the far left lane. I think that would decrease accidents immensly! That way I can be cruizing to Tucson at 80mph and not worry about grandma doing 50mph in my way!

I doubt they'll change from the standard 12/mph... plus arizona state law dictates any speeding offense under 5mph over the speed limit is a pointless slap on the wrist.

Arizona state law also dictates any time you are caught doing "less than 65 in a 55" (aka 'Waste of a Finite Resource', in arizona terms) in any other state, it is a slap on the wrist. Yes, any OTHER state, too. You have to pay the state's fine, but...

Slap on the wrist == no points, no MVD report, no insurance hikes.

Ok , fellas.

80 is better than the norm, but it is not fast.

It is still a barrier to be broken with penalties on the other side. I think it may encourage people to feel looser on the pedal, hence more tickets.

80 is an average cruise speed, triple digits is when it gets fun, 100+, 100 isnt exactly fast though.

I always thought it was kind of ironic to get a ticket for "wasting a finite resource" in my little gas sipping **** burner from a guy driving a Crown Vic with a V8.

The gas he used to chase me down could have kept me going for a week.

That's good because me driving = lead foot! I've been lucky so far, I've been pulled over about six times in Tucson and never received a ticket OR a warning.

this must be for tucson only try 10 over on the LOOP 101 you'll get a ticket, i know cause got one. 75 in a 65 zone. East & West bound I-10 you can do a steady 65 in a 55 zone and have cops blow by you, usually cause some dipstick in a Rce car is doing 90+

but i dont speed anymore, all your doing is making the oil companys rich.
