Time for a cruise/get-together

We promised we would have one as the temps got cooler, and they are, so it's time to start thinking about a cruise or a get-together for 3rd gens. Any ideas??

I wouldn't mind meeting up with some other third gen owners, but the weather has to be cooler. These temps are getting out of hand.

Are we talking about a track event or a cruise with late night activity?

I may have to get off my lazy butt and install my nitrous system if AZIROC makes an appearance. I just picked up the GENX-2 and remote opener last weekend. I am missing one piece to the bottle warmer, but I can live without it until it cools down.

I think he is looking to cruise. I think we should have a photo shoot on the base like last time. Those pictures were great. Maybe a BBQ here on base too. Between Tom & I we can get everyone on base for it.

well a night cruise would work better for me becuase my car still needs a lot of work and i dont want to be driving it all over the place in this heat right now, most likely i will be just getting out here in time for the cruise so i will not have a whole lot of time to be doing anything to it before hand.

No hurries and no worries. I personally am not interested in a track event, but rather a good showing at the Pavilions or some other car show and/or a cruise. I'ld even host a bbq but I've been down that road before, in fact I think I'm still using the ketsup I bought for that event.

You know you can count me in.

I like the idea of having it around the Super Chevy show. Lets pin down a date and what city, and then take it from there.

I believe the rule is as long as it's Chevy powered, you can run. Keep in mind that they enforce NHRA rules.

Non chevy bodied vehicles have the ability to be registered in 2 classes from what I can see in the rules.

The first class "CONVERSION - 1900-48, 1949 & newer - Class includes all non-Chevy-bodied vehicles with Chevy power and all Chevy-bodied vehicles with non-Chevy power. (Show Option of early and late model with FYB)"

The other class "STREET CRUISER CLASS - Real street machines! - for STREET-DRIVEN Chevy-powered or Chevy-bodied street rods, street machines and pro street entries who do not wish to be judged or compete for specialty or class awards and jackets under 2003 Super Chevy Show judged guidelines; also for unfinished vehicles. A designated parking area will be allocated for all Street Cruiser entries; participants will not be required to park by class or type of vehicle. Vehicles parked no later than Sunday at noon will be eligible for Street Cruiser awards chosen on appeal by sponsors and/or the editorial staff of McMullen Argus Publishing, Inc. Participants must be present and their vehicles must be on display to win. Two awards will be presented for the first 10 vehicles appearing; after 10 vehicles one award will be added for every 5 additional entries (three awards given if 15 total entries, four if 20 total entries, etc.)"

More details @ http://www.superchevyshow.com/

I wouldn't mind doing this around the Super Chevy show, and it's far enough away to let everyone get their stuff done before hand....

I'm down for that. I should be moved into my new house so that means I can paint my hood finally. If we do it around super chevy and have it here, bring something warm to wear. Willie and myself paid for it last year. It was warm all the way up to the show, then the day of it, the wind was blowing and it was down in the 60's. Me and Willie froze, it was freakin cold.

Don't worry whiteboy, BMT is fun. You get like 2 hours of sleep a night, stand all day, and play war for a week. Oh yeah, I forgot about the best part, you get yelled at all the time. HAHA. Atleast you are going before Tom gets there. He's going to fit right in. LOL.

AZIROC,

Thanks for the tip. I will get that part for the warmer when I do the install. Stick with the 150 shot until we meet. I have a feeling that you will have enough without stepping up.

I really need a set of coated headers asap. I have a blue oval style solenoid configuration and the edelbrocks keep melting wires. With nitrous, I can pretty much count on some sort of melt down with the edelbrocks.

Anyone hanging onto a set of 1 7/8 SLP headers with A.I.R. that want to sell them?

A few things needed to be pointed out here.

1. 1 7/8 headers are required only in the case of an extreme power adder situation on a small block, one case that comes to mind is a N2O fogger injected 871 blower application, or something similar.

2. Running shorty headers are going to become a liability very quickly on a big cube N20 or blower motor, this is due to the inadequecy of the y-pipes, if your motor is worth 375hp or more at the flywheel shorties are gonna rob some power, anything over that and near the 400hp range you really need to think seriously about LTs.

3. LT headers makes gobs more power BC of the fact that there is a much smoother transition in and out of the collector and then the custom fabrication of a y-pipe. Dont get to wrapped up in primary diameter as 1 5/8 LTs are good and preferable to about 400hp its a toss up between 1 5/8s or 1 7/8s at 450-475hp but 500hp or more 1 7/8s LTs is where you need to be to achieve max power. All hp #s are denoted at the flywheel.

End of story.

Case and point example.

As a matter of fact I just finished installing a set of coated Hooker Super Comp 1 7/8s LTs on my Superram stroker motor with a 3" custom y-pipe and a 3.5" Mufflex/Spintech back after the y-pipe.

I bought the whole setup gently used from a friend who was running it behind his custom EFI blower 350. The car was dynoed on a dyno-jet setup twice. 2 variables existed between the 2 runs. The first time it put down 500hp with SLP 1 3/4 shortys and some over-the-counter 3" catback, flowmaster I think. The second time he put down 560hp with the Super Comp setup and a diferent set of pistons that dropped his compresion by a 1/2 point. He blew a slug shortly after the first dyno run and decided to change out all the slugs and upgrade his exhaust in the process. Nothing else was changed at all, not the boost pressure, not even the tune.

While it would have been a perfect example if the pistons werent changed, sheet happens. But 60hp is alot, considering it was at the tires, and I feel safe assuming that most of that power jump came from the headers. All bove hp #s are at the tires and at 4500 feet elevation.

So my advice to you is not wasting your money on coated shortys if your gonna run juice. Its just not a very smart move if you have to put money out for coated headers to buy shortys, i dont care who makes em. Headmen coated 1 5/8 LTs will be your best choice as they can be had for less then 350$ coated new.

You need to think long term if you plan to be running spray. Back pressure on any power adder motor can cause backfires and broken pistons. I sure as hell would never flirt with backpressure if I was going to run juice. Actually I am going to be running juice, hence the reason I bought an extreme duty exhaust setup, my frind has since sold his blower and is going twin turbo, also the reason I bought his exhaust setup.

Peace
Hope this helps.

OMINOUS 87,

Sounds like our motor's have a few things in common.

This is excellent timing! I was just looking at that same cat-back that you have on your car. I am definitely interested in hearing it and seeing the longtubes on your car as well, because I have concerns about heat and clearance.

The other reason why I was interested in the SLP 1 3/4 shortie headers is because I have seen several 10.50 - 11.50 second cars with them. So, I know they work well on other setups.

My current exhaust (1 5/8 edelbrock headers, custom y-pipe and SLP cat-back) set up worked well on my stock L98 motor when I was running a 9lb paxton. Good enough for low 12s at the time, but not anymore.

-Back to the original topic, mid - november has my vote.

Too bad we didn't plan something for next weekend's Central Cruise. Maybe we should plan for the next one in April?

I have to do some wiring this week but if I get the car running, I will be going.

The Central Cruise makes the pavilions look like crap. Even if you don't bring your car, you can still see many cars that you don't normally see on the street.

Super Chevy Show is a three day event. Can you plan for Friday - Saturday, which would give you time to get back in time?

Holy crap how did I miss this thread?! ANYWHO, I'd love for this to be attempted again. Go figure just like the last time we tried this I just started a new job so hopefully my schedual works for it. Definitely needs to be in PHX area.

Chris just like last time let me know if there is ANYTHING I can help with. Maybe we can coax a few more people to the pavillions this time

I'm new to Phoenix, and would like to meet some of you guys, but I never know with work what I can and can't go to. I work every weekend pretty much. I also don't have a thirdgen to bring to anything right now. One of mine is still on the other side of the country, and the other is sitting in the garage with no rear end in it right now, and it's not registered or insured either. At some point though I hope to make it to something.

I'm sure we'll get a schedule together here shortly.

cdartz, stay tuned here, I'm sure if you had the time off someone could work out a passengers seat for you to sit in.
