Charles, I have some concerns as well as to how "THIRDGEN" in particular is represented. I attended G10(would not have attended under TGO.), I have also attended G14, which I received no reply from the thread and decided to park with my own group F-Body Inc. G15 I drove a friend of mine's car up and parked with F-Body Inc once again due to the fact that there seems to be a certain cliche with TGO members attending The Gathering and I really didn't get any reply to my post. I have seen several posts from different members on here and no direct reply to them as to how anyone will welcome them. charlie31603, is one example out of several. He posted that he may not make it and nobody replied to him. Other posts from several members as to their attendance was completely ignored as well. It seems there is only one cliche and they seem to stick to one another. The 4 times I have attended I got along with many people...however...I must say that as friendly as the TGO group was...I did not feel accepted in the group, more like a passer by(much like the 4th genners are feeling with the new 5th gen guys.) Maybe I am feeling left out when I shouldn't, but for those of us in Florida or the Tampa area...I don't see any replies even with as focused as we are in attending the gathering.
I plan to attend next year, but as continuous as the lack of replies are this year under TGO....I will yet again register under F-Body Inc.

Jim, your post is the first time that I have heard anyone indicate that the TGO group was anything but friendly. The rest of the group have always treated me very well, and we have ltttle in common except that we all like Camaros and Firebirds. I don't turn wrenches much any more, and most all of the rest of the the group have built thier own cars into what they want them to be. My car is all stock, and about as interesting as oatmeal. Most of the members are young. I am probably the oldest one in the group by an average of 30 years or more. We have several active duty members, and a bunch of veterans. I have no military background. I am a diehard old Ford guy who happens to have a soft spot for F Bodys. Most of the rest of the membership are diehard Chevy people. They politely tolerate the ramblings of an old man and laugh at the stupid stuff that I say. Still we manage to find some common ground. Continue to park with your club, however give us another chance. We are not bad people. As for G-10, I can't say. Our first gathering was G-13. We did general parking that year. The next year I was invited to park with another club and did. At G-15, I am the one who started a movement to have a TGO group when there had not been one in recent times. From there it seems to be growing. Each year there are more Thirdgens. There are some real nice ones hanging out in garages. Maybe the owners will get interested and bring them out for the rest of us to enjoy. Tony seems to be emerging as our natural leader. He gets along well with everyone. He has good organizational and leadership skills. As for people responding to your posts, I am a member of several different types of websites, and alway promote the gatherings. Many posts that I have made have been totally ignored. People have a hard time getting excited about Thirdgens. It goes back to the down sizing, down grading horsepower of the Thirdgen cars when they were introduced in 1982. I was present at that time, and owned a 79 S&B. I remember a lot of us thinking that GM had completely screwed up the Camaro and Firebird line. We now know differently. These cars are just now emerging into the classic car phase after surviving through the old jalopy phase of a car's life. In the next 20 years, the ones that have survived intact will see an increase in popularity.

I wouldn't get down on this group they seem nice. It is the site. It seems that if you are not in the cliche then you rarely get a reply. I've asked several tech questions and found it to be anything but helpful. You get ignored or get told to search when I've seen several questions asked by older members that I've found answers to in searches. Kind of why I stopped asking and just go to the searches or find the answer via google. I guess I'm just used to helpful car forums. Maybe it is the age thing cause I'm a older guy and not to many folks my age are into these third gens and they probably never will if they come here and start asking questions.

if i see the question i'll typically answer it if i know the answer i don't care how old you are, who you are or if the question has been answered before. the people who just tell you to search **** me off because often in the time it takes them to type in search for it, they could have just answer the freaking question. i don't like being one of those bullcrap answering people who talk out of their butt either, so if i don't know the answer i don't reply or will state i don't know.

i too have found that i make posts that get ignored or i get told i'm an idiot who doesn't know anything, but i can say honestly i get acknowledged and respected WAAAAAY more here then on my chopper forum.

bottom line i'll talk to you and answer your questions if i know the answer and actually see it, but i don't normally go surfing through threads, usually just check out the classifieds, southeast board, and convertible boards. - send me a PM and if i know the answer i'll let you know.

I'm going to try to attend next year (wanted to this year), but i don't know if i'll go lone wolf, or actually fly an affiliation.

I've been feeling the same way over in the LSx swap forum too CB. Luckily, Jason - JaysZ28, is almost always there to answer my questions. Thanks Jason, it's much appreciated.

I agree 86ws6, we need more third gens there next year. I really enjoyed the show and like 5th gens, but it seemed to be more of a 5th gen show than anything. Maybe we can balance it out next year with more 3rd gens

A lot of 2nd gen owners got turned off because it was more of a 4th gen show. Now it really looks like a chevrolet used car lot with all the 5th gens out. I said to a group of 2nd gen owners that it will remain a 4th/5th gen show if people dont get the 1st and 2nds out. I have to say though, I saw more 3rds this year than I have ever seen.

The G's have changed over the years. I have heard complaints from some of the people who attended the first gatherings, however everything changes with time. It will probably continue to change, as events like this change with social trends. It is still a good venue with lots of fun for everyone. I believe that the most important aspect of the gatherings are that everyone can get together in a safe environment, unwind, have a great time, and enjoy these wonderful cars that we love so much. Since we are mostly thirdgen fans it is natural that we want to promote thirdgen participation at the gatherings, but does it really matter which generation is in the majority? I always enjoy seeing the latest and greatest 5th gens, some classic 4th gens, however will always have a special place in my heart for the 1st and 2nd gens. Those were the cars of my youth. I can't afford the other gens, but can afford a Thirdgen.

Russ said that if we are going to host a dinner cruise for G-17 we need to notify the gathering staff before 02/2013. Anyone have any ideas about where we want to go? I'm OK with any choice, as long as it is not somewhere lame like McDonald's.I looked over some people's profiles, and I really am the oldest one in this group...

I don't think I met you at the gathering Charles. I believe you were still recovering from the saturday night partying(I mean 10pm crash ) when I did stop by the TGO section sunday morning.

Damon, really wish I could have made it this year. Good to hear there are more and more 3rd gens showing up every year. I'm going next year for sure.

I don't believe that we have met either. I was out there at the TGO section Saturday night until 0045 Sunday morning. I always have a problem matching screen names to real names and faces. We can make a point for introductions next year. I don't drink because the medication I take for that brain tumor and alcohol don't mix very well. I did have one of those wonderful Moon Shine Cherrys that another group kindly shared with us. I had to get up early to drive to Carrolton Sunday to pick up Betty at her sister's house, so that is why I left the parking lot so early. Da Spudro, that is a nice vert! Hope you can join us for G-17.

I have been a member of this site for a long time. I do not know administration or moderators here. I do not feel in or outside of an clique, although I can understand why some feel this way. This site was created by third gen owners and fans, for the third gen owners and fans. Dont let a few attitudes here cause you to be distracted from participating in a discussion, provide your assistance with help to another, express your opinion, or represent third generation f bodies in general. I overall find this site more positive then negative.

I have been to G10, G13, G15, and G16. Third gens were few in the vast amount of fbodies present. A few years back I joined Charles and a few others under the "TGO" banner, to represent third gens. Every year third gens grow in participation. Our purpose was to reach out to fellow third gen owners going to the event to have a place to meet, park and take refuge from the weather under a large tent. In no way do we want to harm this site or offend anyone in its affiliation.

Thanks guys, it's not perfect but i love this picture because the angle and wax job makes it looks alot nicer (some paint chips and clear is coming off tonnue and trunk/spoiler) and hide alot of the imperfections.

When is it next year? - has the date been firmed already? i'd like to go, but i'm going to have to save for it. one of these days i'll get to go to my big 4.... (indy-fest, Gatornationals, Gxx, and Hot Rod Power Tour).

We can always change the name if need be, we could register as TGO Club or something similar if we need to. I think we should try to keep it as a booster for the thirdgens even if TGO does not want us using their domain to do it. IMO hosting as GFB which two members here happen to be helping with would take away from that, no offense or argument intended.

Honestly I thought Joe's Crab Shack was a perfect place for it. Plenty of parking, we got a nice big private room for all of us, a discount, and it was away from downtown. Normally I think Dave and Busters would be O.K. but they were not expecting us, and there was a huge crowd from local High School graduations (it is not normally very crowded). I can't think of another place in that area that would be able to hold all of us (near the event/D&B), there are plenty of restaurants but they are not that large that there is a ton of extra room on a Saturday. There are a lot of less crowded restaurants up by Joes (which is around 8 mi away), most would still be hard to reserve that much room. I will keep my eyes open for a better spot if it is out there. I live here though, so wherever you guys want to go really.

I have to agree with this. However we register next year, it needs to be third gen related.

GFB in the coastal area here has been non existant untill recently. My interest is in joining other fbody owners year around and close to home. I hope to meet all generation enthusists, especially third gen owners. I would like to see a convoy of fbodys from the coastal area to the gathering next year. When I get there, all is welcome under the canopy, but Ill be parked with the third gen gang once again.

One repeating issue many have had is the cost of the hotel rooms. I understand the host hotel discounts us and its about $80 a night. Danny and his wife stayed at a local motel at well under half of the amount. Next year Im doing the same. I see no reason why we cant organize this for others and have a "shuttle" car for us to get back and forth.

Tony, Thanks for your imput. You clarified everything very well. Everyone in the group wants the group to grow, so that we can be a Thirdgen force at the Gatherings. We have no reason to exclude anyone. We are trying to become a major player like the Rev Zone. The excellent turn out of Thirdgens has changed the personality of the Gatherings for the better, however we can do better.

Jordan, Thanks for your offer. You are a great resource. I liked Joe's also, however D&B's might also work for us if they have a heads up in advance. I do think that have all gathering participants in one dining room works best. It will prevent us from ending up in our Cliches, so to speak... I am open to suggestions.

As for continuing as the TGO group, I would just as soon continue as we have done for the last two years. No one has said that we can't continue as TGO. My concerns are that no one has told us that we can continue under the TGO name. If I don't hear something back in a few days I will write the administrator again.

Several of us in the "Cliche" are trying to get a cruise organized to run the "Hell Bender" US HY 28, and the "Tail of the Dragon" US 129 at Deals Gap. The Hell Bender starts in Franklin, NC. procedes north to Bryson City, NC., than it turns west and follows the south shore of Fontana Lake. Past Fontana Lake, and Fontana Dam the Hell Bender intersects with the Tail of the Dragon and goes through Deals Gap into Eastern Tennessee. It is one hell of a run! It is some of the most beautiful country in the south east running along the southern border of the Great Smokies National Park.

Fontana Villiage is located at the western end of the Hellbender, a few miles before US 28 and US 129 (The Tail of the Dragon) intersect. Fontana Villiage is isolated, but is almost a small town in its own right. Fontana was the support community for the workers who built the dam in 1945. Peppertree Resorts turned the community into a full scale resort back in the 70's. The villiage has lodging ranging from a hotel, to individual cabins, and also has a campground at the base of Fontana Dam. The campground will make a nice base camp, and will keep expenses low if people are concerned about costs. Several levels of food services and a small grocery store are available at the villiage. There are also a couple of motels in Deal's Gap that cater to the motorcycle crowd, and any of those will make a suitable basecamp also. Starting at Franklin NC driving the HB to Deal's Gap on the TOD, is about 75 miles.

David, As I said at the show, you guys are more than welcome to park with us under the TGO banner. I don't think any of us really care what generation car everyone is driving. It's about the company. Tony and Charles will agree with me on this, as we had a 5th gen parking with us because he didn't have a club affiliation.

Charles, I'm with you on the idea of flying the TGO banner until somebody from TGO asks us not to. I think if it were a problem we probably would have heard about it by now.

To anyone who felt put off by TGO at the Gatherings in the past, I can't speak for the past as I wasn't there. But I will say that Everyone is welcome. The more the merrier.

I don't go to the Gathering to compete with the 5th gens that are showroom squeaky clean or the 1000pt resto 1st gens. I go there for the company and comradery, and to check out the awesome cars from all over the country.

I own a 3rd gen because I love it. I always loved the lines, the Aggressive appearance. My car turns heads and gets comments/compliments everywhere I drive it. When people ask me what I have done to it, I simply tell them the list of what I haven't done is a whole lot shorter.

I like the idea of keeping TGO as our club affiliation. I like people to see large groups of them together and realize that they are worth a look. I like seeing clean ones and saying to my self "that's another one saved from the crusher."

Kevin, You make lots of good points. You are a valuable asset to the group. Thanks for all that you do. Maybe I am worrying too much about if to TGO or not to TGO thing. No one has said no, and certainly the mods are reading our posts, so they have to be aware of what we are doing. It is probably just the goofy old fart worrying over nothing.The 5th gen dude, I think his name is Jerry??? I wondered what the rest of the story was about him, because I did not remember ever meeting him before. I am usually good with faces but bad with names. Kevin, that's cool that you invited him to park with us. The more people and cars, the better. We may have a second canopy next year. Danny said that he may buy a canopy like the one I have, and we can place them together. We need a projection TV and a satelite dish... I will requests that we can place our canopies on level 4 instead of level 5 next year. It does not seem that Chad or Andy care one way or the other. Charles

Charles. The 5th gen guy is Grimm. He has a 3rd gen as well but it's not something he would drive to Atlanta and back. It needs much work. He's in my unit here in Savannah, rightfully nice guy.

Tale of the Dragon run sounds like fun to me. Just hope it's sometime I can go.

We could modifiy the name of the group to Third Gen Owners Past Present and Future, to include nearly anyone. Everyone has had one or wanted one weather they admit it or not. LOL The deal with us and the motel is that we wanted a smoking room and the Marriot doesn't offer one. Our room was 50 a night after taxes and just across the Interstate. We would have stayed at the Marriot if they had smoking rooms but I can understand how the cost would affect someone's decision. Did leave me more money for the auction!

BTW there were 5 or 6 third gens in Pilot Mtn last weekend. Something similar to a business card with TGO's web addy would have been nice. None of the owners I spoke with had even heard about the site, but I was in the mountains with the banjo's.
