Re: F-body Gathering G-16 May 2012
Are you talking about the crab shack dinner cruise? If so ill do that too but hit hooters or tilted kilt instead. I'm not a seafood person. I to am no high speed guy. It is too much fun to just cruise in these cars. We've given those ideas to the whole staff but no response. My club allgencamaros tried to help last year but no one wanted our help so we figure we will sit back and enjoy the scenery and hang with the members we don't see often. We were in agreement that the gathering needs us, not the other way around. We have brought 30 plus cars three years in a row.

Re: F-body Gathering G-16 May 2012
I'm coming from Tampa area. I registered under ThirdGen.org (I hope I wrote it down correctly, I registered weeks ago).
I hope to be able to park with you guys, as the group I was with last year (Fbody, Inc.) kind of fell through. Not everyone is coming this year and Jim said I should register with TGO.
I may be calling for a tow in, lol. My truck is coming too, but I loaned it out and it is already pulling a thirdgen. Crossing my fingers she makes it though. I will definitely be hitting up someone to look at it while there!
We are leaving Thursday after work, and staying till Sunday.

86WS6, do you know of any antique firearm stores in your area? We will be there the week before the gathering.

Re: F-body Gathering G-16 May 2012
Extra events are set-up and hosted by various clubs. If you are interested in a poker run or something extra talk to Andy or Chad by PM on the gathering site. Pitch your idea, and how you want to set it up and they will give you some guidelines. I remember a few years back one of the clubs set up some off site 1/4 mile runs at a local drag strip. I would love to get to lap a circle track sometime in Amanda (the 86WS6), and get some times and speed numbers for her. She is totally stock with 29,300 miles on the clock, and should be running close to what she was when new. This year I plan to make the cruise on Saturday afternoon, but will refrain from anything high-speed or competitive as the tires are 6 years old, and although they only have 4K miles on them, are probably begining to dry rot. I don't have the money this year to replace them, so I will just drive the car easy and hope for no problems.

Re: F-body Gathering G-16 May 2012
Most of the antique dealers around here are general merchandise, and than there are those stores that call themselves antique stores, but are really geared towards the tourist traffic. Not much of any interest in those. This area was pretty well picked over many years ago.
Chattanooga would be my first guess for antique firearms in the south east, and then the Buckhead area of Atlanta.

Thanks for the offer. I think that the tires will be Ok for general cruising. There is no signs of rot, I just figure at 6 years old the rubber has to be getting drying out and getting brittle.

Charles, Check out the BFGoodrich Gforce Sport COMP-2. The wear and traction are great. I've had Gforce Sports for 4 years with no visible rot. I couldn't tell you exactly how many miles but I'm pretty happy with how well they have lasted and how well they have performed.

Going to try and finish up what I need to do on the IROC tomorrow, finishing the tune up. How it ever ran on the stuff it had in there before, I will never know. Then it just needs and oil change and a trans mount installed and she will be ready. Still debating if I want to drive it up there or tow it like I had planned. I really want to drive it. For me, the drive up and back are the best part of the trip when with a group. So if I do drive it, I might need a number to the rescue squad! lol. And I did register with are local car club. But since half of them are registered with your group, I might just switch it up and park with you guys. Adam

Posting from Afghanistan... no thirdgens here. Lots of military vehicles, aircraft, and of course the venerable Toyota Hilux and Toyota Corolla. I'll be back soon but out the door again... won't be around until G18. I'll shoot for that. Hope you guys have a good time!

I think I spent close to $900. That included fuel from Destin to ATL, hotel, food for two, a trip to the Atlanta Aquarium, and a trip to a very expensive yet very delicious restaurant that could probably up its portion sizes a bit... it's definitely an investment if you're out of town, but it's a fun event and one of the few spots you'll see a significant number of nice thirdgens.

I cant believe the money you guys budget for a trip like this. You know what I could do with $900. If I went by myself I wouldnt spend more that $200. I would sleep in the car.

Re: F-body Gathering G-16 May 2012
The show is $44, everything else is optional! lol I think a lot of people turn this into a family trip and do lots of extra events that are not car show related. I am local but we end up staying at the hotel on Saturday since I'm always way too intoxicated to drive home. All up to you and what you want to do/can afford.
I don't think the hotel would ever allow serving drinks in the parking lot as they do have a restraunt/bar inside the hotel. We are lucky they let us BYOB, and there is plenty of that going on

Re: F-body Gathering G-16 May 2012
Sorry to hear. I also had an accident. Last week was the first time taking the car on the road in about 2 years and a bag of trash exploded on the highway taking my front right fender ground effect. Nothing I can do about it, so it will be attending the show without it until I can replace it.

What part of the nose do you need Tony? There is a bumper cover listed on craigslist here. Not new but he says it's good, 50 bucks I think.

Re: F-body Gathering G-16 May 2012
40-50 for registration
75 a night or so for hotel
Aquarium trip was probably 100 bucks all told, including parking - really cool but not recommended on Memorial Day Weekend if you hate crowds
Eating out for two people, probably spent a little over 200, though one of those meals was pretty expensive
Snacks, probably 10-20 bucks
Extra detailing stuff to use at the car show, 10-20 bucks
Camaro t-shirts at the show... 20-30 bucks
900 is probably a high estimate, but it can easily get up there. Originally I was going to crash with a friend who lived in ATL, but he ended up being out of town. I almost cancelled after that, but had already registered. Since we rarely get to Atlanta, we made a 3 day trip out of it and ate out. May as well have fun... the Camaro will be parked for the better part of a year soon so I guess I'll recoup that money when the cars are parked.

Re: F-body Gathering G-16 May 2012
Hi Kurt, Thanks for the positive comments on the banner. Sorry you can't make it this year. It is because of people like yourself that the rest of us have nothing more serious to worry about than the costs of things and how to have an adaquate beer supply for the weekend. Thanks for keeping the rest of us safe. Be careful over there and come back safely. Also, thanks for your help last year with canopy set-up and take-down. Maybe you'all can come to G-17 next year. That is one sweet Camaro you own. For us the major costs of the gatherings are the four nights we spend on the hotel room. Our second biggest expense is food. Betty is not there for the car show, and is only willing to attend if she gets to stay in a nice place, and eat at some of the better places around the area. Our third biggest expense is diesel fuel for our F-350. It does not burn that much, but at $4.00 plus a gallon it adds up quickly. For us the gatherings are a mini vacation, one of the few that I don't have to spend with extended family. We had a couple of close calls this week. On Monday my stepson and an employee of his was hit almost head-on when a couple on a motorcycle missed a stop sign and collided with my stepson's truck in the intersection. The speed of the motorcycle was estimated at 70 MPH. It killed the motorcycle driver instantly and severely injured the female passenger riding with him. The impact was so severe that it turned over my stepson's F-150 Supercrew onto its side. Thankfully my stepson and his employee were not seriously injured, however they were banged up quite a bit. We traveled from our home in NC to a grand-daughter's graduation from Valdosta State University on Saturday. Coming home on Wednesday driving around Atlanta on I-285 E., near the eastern junction with I-20, an elderly fellow in a pickup truck drifted into our lane and side swiped our car. We were not driving the Trans AM. It was my Crown Victoria daily driver. We were lucky that no one was injured.I have had enough excitement this week. Come on G-16. Charles

that would be just a bare minimum.... but seeings how i can't go to ATL without paying a visit to D&B's..... or two..... or three..... yeah it'd get expencive.... but i go to enough things and bail on my wife and kid..... i'd be nice to bring them along for a change and well with that comes an exponential growth in the cost.

Lol, and now back to the gathering.... Anyone heard anything about the Saturday dinner cruise? If not we could always do our own. This seemed popular though, probably 25 cars or so last year..
I'm local so if anyone has issues when they are in town, let me know and I will try to help.

I honk and flip people off.. but it doesn't seem to help too much
Traffic is not bad on the weekends, so going downtown or up to Town Center wouldn't really matter on Sat night (Friday night is another story). The Varisty downtown would be more crowded, but it is the drive in type and more fun vs the one at town center is just a normal eatery but not crowded at all. If you guys wanted a slower cruise we could take Cobb Pkwy up towards Town Center. We might loose some folks as there are a lot of lights though. There are plenty of restaruants in any direction though.

Re: F-body Gathering G-16 May 2012
Danny, I sent a mail reply to your regular E-Mail address. For some reason the link will not work. Hope you have a great time on your trip. Tony, That's great that you found replacement parts locally. Will you have time to get them on the car before G-16?If we are going to do a cruise somewhere, shouldn't we open it up for other clubs to participate if they want to? We will arrive at the hotel somewhere around 1100 on Thursday. I plan to talk to Chad as soon as we arrive to get the spot for the canopy. I will probably set up the framework as soon as we arrive to save our spot. During G-16 everyone feel free to use the space under the canopy as you wish. I will be too busy to sit or visit much, however I am bringing the thing for the benefit of Thirdgen.org members. It is 12 x 20. I will have to leave to drive Betty to Carrollton to her sister's house so that she can attend a wedding on Saturday, so I will be back sometime Thursday afternoon. If the weather permits, the rest of the canopy will go up early Thursday evening. Last year we had a rough storm that came through on Thursday afternoon, and if the canopy had been on the framework the whole thing would have ended up upside down somewhere. Tony, if a storm occurs while I am away, please pull the canopy off of the framework, so that it does not get thrown on top of someone's car. I plan to unload Amanda Thursday evening, or Friday morning, and get the finishing touches done on her by Friday morning. I will be tied up helping Jim with registrations the rest of the day Friday, until registration closes. Saturday AM is the judging, and it usually lasts until 1300, than the rest of Saturday is free time. Sunday I have to drive back to Carrollton to pick up Betty. No set time as long as we are back for the awards. We could all cruise to Carrollton, pick up Betty, then have breakfast/brunch/or lunch somewhere? It is a nice drive from Marrietta to Dallas, then down to Villa Rica, and than on to Carrollton. It is an hour and 15 minutes each way. The awards usually start at 1800 on Sunday. Monday morning prior to the farewell breakfast, the canopy will be taken down, packed and up loaded. We plan to leave about 1100 Monday. CharlesPS: Sorry in advance if everything in this post gets bunched together. It was typed in separate paragraphs, however this stupid computer at work usually screws up posts.

It's kind of last minute, but I might try and go.
Trying to see how work will be might have free time might be working. I do want to make it one year, always heard about it but never had time.

Does anyone know where we are parking this year? I don't see a map on fbodygathering.com

Just look for the big canopy with the thirdgen.org banner
Gathering site looks to be a bit behind this year, I assume there are gonna be some last minute things going on. We are usually in the same spot though.

Re: F-body Gathering G-16 May 2012
Chad told me in a PM that we will be in the same spot. They may move us a few spots to the left/center, or a few spots to the right, but it will be close to the same location. There are always last minute adjustments to the parking map. Last year Chad made changes after we arrived, but before I set up on Thursday in order to give us some extra room. Personally I hope that they move us closer to the center/left side so that we have the corner spot. We will be treated well by the Gathering staff. Come on G-16...
