I lay claim to the fastest streetable 3rd gen Camaro at Orlando today

Arrived at the track about 11:00am. Unfortunately, a biker went down before I arrived and had a very serious crash. I wish that person the best, I heard that it was very bad seen.

Having been at the track for about 2 hours, I got my first run in. A slow 12.75sec ET. Then after waiting another hour and half, finally decided to bag it for the day.

So, based on no-shows, I lay claim to the fastest streetable 3rd gen Camaro in Central Florida. If someone wishes to take the crown from me, show up on the 21st. Drive your car to the track and we can run them off.

That sure seems to be a boring way to get that position, just doesn't seem fun winning by default. Here's to hoping for more entertainment next time.

I agree with you completely. The whole idea was to put a challenge out there, entice a few guys or gals to come to the track and race. Actually, I could care less about having the fastest streetable car; I wanted to met some car people in Florida.

I think I saw your car run, I was busy with my car, ended up destroying the carrier in my 10 bolt. (4th Gen)

Was it a red IROC with black Z06 motorsports wheels and a 91'-92' high rise spoiler?

Yes, that was my car; its an '87 with the 91/92 high rise wing. I talked to several guys there for quite awhile, one had an LT1 Camaro, another an LS1 WS6 car, and the third had an LS1 GTO. We had a good time, but the long waits finally did me in, and I left. What was your car and were you able to get it home?

This is my car, my 2nd pass of the day and the one that did in the carrier.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4AHFf8WiYQ

I was able to get it home by some dumb luck. It made some nasty noises pulling into my driveway and barely made it into the garage. I'll mess with it some other time, going to just drive the 91' even though it's not 100% ready yet.

doc, I understand where you are coming from completely. If I was on that side of the states, and my car was running, I would be there without a flinch. As it stands it is a little too far to drive, and all I've got to drag is a 2nd gen with a halfway junk rear end, lowsey 10 bolts.

86 IROC, that was a great pass. If you want/need any help in fixing your car let me know. Hey, looks like you have the 4th gen crown for fastest streetable Camaro. I will race you with my 4th gen when you get your car fix. You will beat me bad, but I will still race you. I got to get a much better rear tire before I could even get into the 11s.

fryer1979: I like your attitude. Its all about getting out there and running your car,,,,measuring your latest mod,,,, why else would we put so much money into them?

I'd challenge you, but your about a 3.5 hr drive or so. I've raced at OSW two or three times before though. Once I finish up my next set of mods, I hope to be out there.... perhaps the first week of Feb

Jason, you'll be over on this side of the state on the 23rd. We're going to OSW that night BTW!

Doc - thanks, I am in no hurry to pull the rear out. It seems like all I do is fix broken cars lately - I need a break.

Re: I lay claim to the fastest streetable 3rd gen Camaro at Orlando today

Well Doc, after seeing your sig with your modification lists I think we would be in for a good race. I will be putting the drive train from my 2nd gen into my '84 Z28, which is a modestly modified 350 (comp cam, edelbrock intake, vortec heads, demon carb, and accel/MSD ignition), a heavily modified TH-350 with a B&M 2500 stall, and most likely 3.73 posi rear end (haven't decided on the gears for sure). Not sure of the performance number because we don't have a dyno or dragstrip around here, but in comparison it feels like high 12's or low 13's car. I can't say who would win, but it sure would be a heck of a time finding out, too bad it would probably take me 4 days at least to drive out there. I agree man, it is what we are all about.

Brian, no gurantee that my thirdgen will make it....... and if it does, I'm sure they'll boot me for not having a rollbar in the 'vert

now if the exhaust work is done on the blue one... mwahahahahahahaha

but I don't see that happening

I run a bit faster than your vert, and they have yet to kick me out for no bar. I think you'll be OK, just bring a helmet.

kowboy59: finally got your attention. Yea, you should beat me easily by 2 seconds (or worse). I can make it to the track next week Wednesday, the 21st. All you got to do is to drive your car to the track and race me head to head. Can you make it? How about three straight races, back to back?

when ice starts forming in the burnout box, I'd think it might be a little too cold to be racing! LOL

on a side note, I'm hoping to be there friday night

I would think that any run in htis weather would be almost on the dangerous side.... it would prolly be best to wait till the temps come up a bit at night.

I would beat you on motor also. It's just hard to get to the track right now, too much work to do.

Maybe we could all meet up at a funday sunday in Feb? It's a 2 hour drive for me so leaving after work wouldn't give me enough time on the weekdays.

Re: I lay claim to the fastest streetable 3rd gen Camaro at Orlando today

You guys will have to battle it out without me. There is something dreadfully wrong with my car. I took the car for a drive to Cape Canaveral, but only a few miles on I95, the engine started to cut out big time and the car bucked as it tried to stall, then suddenly pick back up. I barely made it back home, and the engine died for good in the garage. So, until further notice, my '87 IROCZ is out of action.
