Yep, works on TBI too. I used to find it helpful on my old 88' 1500.

Re: Volusia County Florida!

Well Im currently watchin I think 4 or 5 scanners on ebay so we'll see. My mom talked to a guy who owns a video game store and they need some part time so I think I might have a job finally. Then I can start doing some nice stuff to the car which you will appreciate Mike. I see runners, intake manifold and cam in our future lol. Its the distant future but still.

What you were saying about sticking with the 9bolt Bryan, so I should just keep it and put the 3.42 gears in? I have no problem doing that. Down time on the car would be a lot shorter.

Re: Volusia County Florida!

looking into oil press. sending unit. should be above oil filter. intermittent low oil pressure. makes the car run like crap. yeah, i know it's an lo3.
scanner cant see that though.

Yup, you can buy a set of 3.45's and have them installed. If you saw the difference in size between the axles on a 9 bolt vs. a 10 bolt - that would be enough alone to convivce you. Plus, you have a very clean low mile car that hasn't been abused. You never know what you might get buying another used rear.

For right now, until you get more mod money - get a TPI manifold gasket set, some carbide dremel bits, diferent grit sanding barrels, etc. Then port your stock plenum & base. Hell, you can even pick up a spare base manifold cheap and work on it in your spare time. I'm going to do mine next month. With patience, you can really lean on a stock manifold and make it work until you buy an aftermarket piece. I have a Edelbrock Vortec base, but no heads yet - hence why I'm going to port my stocker for now. I'm going to leave the internals of my car alone and remind some people how fast a bolt on car can go. My old cam only IROC used to run consistent 13.00's, it was a heavy pig compared to the 91'. I'm confident I can go just as fast or faster without a cam in this car.

Re: Volusia County Florida!

Oh ok kool stuff. I will most definetly have to to go that route. I thought about getting a new intake manifold and having the plenum ported. It would be kool to do it myself jsut need to get all the stuff to do it with. I need to start working on me intake box. Just need a heat gun.

Wow, I didn't realize they were so exspensive. I think the one I used to have on my LS1 car was like $99 new - not on sale. Is it a 2 or 3 point brace?

I need to dig through my crap, I think I might have a wonderbar I saved off of one of my old cars. For some reason GM stopped putting them on these cars after 88' or 89'.

I dont believe it has a stock wonderbrace. They said shipping would be a few weeks due to it being a brand new product which Im not minding its no big deal. I ordered it online. Its a 2 point for TPI.

all this talk is making me jealous so many things to do and no time or money to do it... at the moment! i am thinking suspension first though. make the tires stick better first then give them an excuse to let go.

Re: Volusia County Florida!

it's an adjustable 3 piece 2 point stb. they just got onboard w/ this item. they dont have a brace for carb/tbi yet. every company has diff. prices, umi has so lower prices on 1 item bmr another.
looks like if i cant find whats wrong with my oil pressure, me and wifie will be having the "my car needs new motor talk" always an excuse.

Re: Volusia County Florida!

I had an Edelbrock on my old 86', and MAC used to make a 2 point - they were like $69 new. I have access to a tubing bender, I may just fab up brackets and make my own. I used to build all my own suspension & chassis stuff back in the day. I need to get back to that and start saving some of my hard earned greenbacks.

Re: Volusia County Florida!

UMI just called me saying my card was accidentally charged today instead of when the group purchase ends. So what they said is mine will be the first one out and if the group purchase doesnt meet the quota I still get the discount. Either way it works out in my favor due to them charging me early. Im not complaining lol.

No plug, you're going to have to find a spot where you can tap in with the line for the mechanical guage, no wiring required. See if there is a brass T on the back of the block behind the distributor.

Re: Volusia County Florida!

Check obvious stuff. Last plug change? Check engine light work/on? Bad o2 sensor?

I don't like mechanical oil guages. That little plastic line is a time bomb waiting to happen. Get an electric one....

Re: Volusia County Florida!

I suggested the mechanical guage just to test the accuracy of his stock guage, not as something permanent. Plus they make copper line kits. It will rule out a bad sender or inaccurate guage. For his sake, I hope I'm wrong, but it sounds like worn cam bearings.

I was thinking main bearings as a worst case....

Good idea with the cheaper guage

Re: Volusia County Florida!

no t on back of motor. sensor comes out above filter.
last plug change, late feb 08. check engine light good, throws good code. o2 sensor dont know.
yeah plastic line is easy to melt if routed wrong.
gm gauges are 2nd rate new. approx 114k mi on motor.
on this car i read that fuel pump is wired into oil press sender for some reason( cheap gm)
let car idle 5 min maybe more. ran it up as high as 3500rpm to see what gauge would read. car idled right, press. was at 30-31psi at idle, normal. sounded right.
pulled air filter base, looked at tbi injectors, at idle, constant "spray" is that right? my truck seemed to have much less fuel at idle. never had problem. at 200k mi.
shut car off loaded kids up, drove down the block 2 blocks away, same ****, low idle. car ran bad.
can i hook up mech. oil gauge between block and sensor and keep it under hood?
also read, i said car has been sucking fuel like a pig.

On my car I have the fuel pump oil switch or some mess like that that cuts off the fuel pump when the oil level drop below the sensor to avoid engine damage. That might be what that is. Oil was coming right out of the plug on mine when I had that crazy oil leak back in february. That might be what that is.

Re: Volusia County Florida!

968k6 is at far left of tensior mikey. any smaller might be too much. might wear some pulley.
working on sensor, like 1 & 1/16 size, crazy. cant get in there while hot, planning on doing it in a few minutes. no wrench 1&1/16 is gonna fit, it's like 18" long wrench. trying channel locks and adjustable wrench, which i would normally never do on my car. would like to get some ideas of how to plumb in a mech. oil gauge into engine bay.
ordered fender and 1/4 spoiler for dr. side today. that'll be fun.

ok, sensor changed, cleaned plug end aswell. start up car goes right to 46-47psi.
after a few minutes rev up to 2500rpm, gauge pegs? first thought, great did those auto parts jerks give me a v-6 sensor? drove a few miles, gauge stayed peg'd a few min. then went down to 46-47psi again. drove home, at idle after drive gauge reads 37ish psi. will see. any thoughts?

also during lunch today 2:30pm checked 1st 2 plugs each side of block. just hot spots on top and some black spots on sides, which i believe from running hot, i did just clean out cooling very well (last week).

Same part for the 6 and 8 cylinder. All fixed. My 88GTA would peg it's guage at cruise and cold start up...

and joe i think that there are alot of things on your to do list buddy. you can go right to the performance stuff since your car is already up to snuff. just make sure you take care of things as they come up and dont let anything slide. all right?

hey sky nice to have you back buddy. i have to work this weekend so i am out on anything this weekend. we are all waiting to meet you though buddy. good luck on making a meet, man!

Re: Volusia County Florida!

Well if I ever get these codes to show again and fixed I can start putting money into performance. I dont want to spend all my money on parts and find out I might need a new ecm or some bs.

Will I do have a wonderbar and I probably wont replace it until way down the road.

Mike I tried to trace my wire but where the port is the wires go straight into another group of wires all taped up that go behind the gage cluster and I have no idea how to take all that out and I reallly dont want to unless I have to. I really need a get my hands on a scanner.

Re: Volusia County Florida!

I'm out for the next two weekends, work tomorrow and lots of prep work around the house to get it ready. Then the following weekend is my birthday... 30 is approaching fast. After that, though - I am free and can bring my scan tool.

If I dont have a scan tool by then it would be much appreciated Bryan.

I just got back from New Symerna track watching the quarter midgets, little kids under 10 yrs old. Thats some kool racing there. Wish I could have done that when I was little.

Re: Volusia County Florida!

My car is officially crazy. I started it this morning and it was idleing like crap and the service light was on but I drove it anyways to a friends house. I stayed for about 45 mintues and when I turned the car on there was no light and it ran great. The car is messing with me now lol. I really need to get my hands on a scanner.

Re: Volusia County Florida!

It sounds like you have a bad sensor, that is sensitive to heat. Were any of your codes related to EGR?

Re: Volusia County Florida!

it is pull and save on garfield south of voorhis. i think it has a second name too but off the top of my head i dont remember. nice though. if it use to be a junkyard before then it looks like it was redone cause there is new rock down and everything.
