Collector car insurance wanted in NC
Does anyone have any info on collector car insurance. I live in north carolina and have not had any luck purchasing any. Hagerty says they have to be 20 years old and Grundy says 25 years old. Year models are 97 and 87.

Car: '68 396 SS/RS, '02 SS
I think that 20 years is the cut-off limit. Anything newer is no considered a classic and 25 years for the antique status. I had it on a '68 396 SS/RS and the requirements were rather stringent.
Only 2500 driving miles allowed per year
No Saturday nighting (cruising)
No Racing
Must be kept in a secure garage
Can not be left unattended outside overnight
just to nake a few. The coverage is agreed value and quite reasonable. Not sure how easy they are to pay a claim though, thank goodness I never had to.

No, you can't collector/antique insurance, but you CAN have your car appraised and re-covered in your policy.
I insure with Erie. I told my agent that my Iroc was worth about $3000-$4000 blue book, if not less due to high mileage, and quite possibly EVEN LESS due to the fact that it's a salvage title. She told me to get it appraised professionally and they would set my "value" accordingly. She also said that any major items that may not be reflected in the appraisal could be "bought" an added to the policy. For instance, a new $3000 motor and a new $6000 motor won't show a $3000 difference in the appraisal. However, with receipts, they will add that $3000 to the insured value of the car. Now of course it WILL effect your premium, but that's to be expected.
I plan to have all this done sometime AFTER the car is all shined and polished for this show season! I'll be sure to post up my "Before" value and my "after" value.

Car: 84 15th Anniv. TA
Engine: 305 H.O.
Transmission: 5-speed
Not sure, but on my 15th Anniv. TA, I had allstate cover it with classic insurance at $10,000, sent him the guide from NADA and a bunch of pics! He said its covered with no problem, but still wants me to have it appraised!
They never said anything about how many miles you can drive it or where its kept, but mine is garage kept all the time and its not driven much anyway, it has 48,000 original miles and I want to keep them as low as possible.
Just not sure where to have it appraised at?
