Re: WTB - 350 L98 LongBlock - 91/92 Block

How about a 96-00 Vortec block? I also have the rotating assembly, oil pan & all the roller cam goodies minus the cam. It toasted some rod bearings & the journals on the crank from that but the rods should be usable.

For anyone else reading: I also have one Vortec head that should be good & one cracked bigger than California & also the truck's accessory brackets.

I will do some research on the Vortec. Really wanted an L98. Which heads are on that Vortec setup?

I also have an entire l98 setup out of my old 87. Ran and drove great before the wreck. The whole thing, block, heads entire top end and bottom end.

Just no wiring harness. 300$obo for all of it if your interested.

The Vortec is typically a 4-bolt main block used in 1995 or later Chevrolet/GMC trucks and larger SUV's like the Tahoe and Suburban. Its still an SBC just like the L98. In fact its a 1 piece rear main seal block just the same as the L98. They have provisions for both roller and flat tappet cams. The Vortec blocks are good to go. Strong and plentiful. Both my extra 350 block and my "new" 383 blocks are both "Vortec" blocks. Oh, the 4-bolt main block is essentially the same as the ZZ4 block. They'll take traditional SBC heads, cams, knock sensors and anything the L98 can.

That the case for the l98 also? I've been wondering if the common cam would work in a roller style motor.

I do not know. I think all SBC's can do flat tappet cams but not all blocks can do roller cams. Though I do know there is a retrofit kit that allows you to install roller cams in blocks that only have provisions for flat tappet cams.

Where was the car hit? Did it run after the wreck? Very interested.
