The Red River Region of the SCCA will have their first Autocross of the year at Red River Raceway in Gilliam on Sunday February 17, and the second event of the year will be on March 3. Registration and tech inspection starts at 9:30, first car out at 11. $10 entry fee for novices. Loaner helmets available, if you don't already have a Snell 90 or newer helmet.

The autocross will be run at the dragstrip. The whole pit area at RRR will be turned into a road course outlined by traffic cones. One car at a time will run, and each run lasts 60 to 90 seconds, with each driver getting four runs for the day. The courses at RRR are usually power courses, so you should hit the top of second gear in some sections.

Red River Raceway is 18 miles north of Sheveport off of Highway 71.

Driving directions to Red River Raceway
from Shreveport:

1) Take Hwy 1 North.
2) Go under I220 and continue North ~2 miles.
3) At the Hwy 1/Hwy 71 split stay Right.
4) Continue on Hwy 71 for ~15 miles.
5) Your second right in Gilliam will be
Thunder Rd. (Big sign for Red River Raceway!)
6) Take a right and go until you get to
the main entrance.

Coming from Monroe you want to take the I-220 exit right before you get to Bossier City. Stay on I-220 and right after you cross the Red River bridge take exit 7B which is US 71 / LA 1 north. Then follow the directions in my first post starting with step 3.

Hope to see you there.

This Sunday, March 3 autocross at Red River Raceway, this will be the last autocross at Red River Raceway until June 30.

March 17, April 28, and May 19, autocross events will be at Lee Hedges Stadium behind Captain Shreve High School in Shreveport. The course is about half the size of the one at Red River Raceway.

Man, I wish I could make it up there. Dang school and work. Lafayette really needs a drag strip and autox course. I think a gathering in the central part of LA would have a big turn out.

Soulbounder, Lake Charles has a regular autocross program, and they are only 90 minutes from Lafayette. Check out their site at
