Body work in houston/Katy
Alright guys I got to thinking about the camaro the other day and I had two Ideas
1) turn my current car into an a track only car and leave the body looking like it is. Then I will buy another thirdgen that has a nice body and swap my lt1/t56 into it.
or
2) Get my current car looking good( new front clip, doors need aligned, posslibly two new front fenders, paint job, etc.) and then swap the Lt1/t56 in it.
So I am looking for a good body shop to get an idea as to how much all the body work on my car will cost. I can easily pick up a thirgen with a nice body for around 2k so I am not looking to spend much more than that for the body work on my car. So I am asking you houston area thirdgenners if you have any shops around town that you would reccomend? Thanks for the help guys.

I wonder if TexasB4C--currently going to UTI-- knows anybody over there that might want to do the job on the side or possibly even thru the school?--worth a PM to him and see!

Also, check thru the "private installers" thread that is stickied at the top--seems like there was a guy/place that was giving out a discount to thirdgenners some time back!

Thanks for the heads up Zap I remember talking to that Sams club guy a while back he had that red and Gold Z28 right? Yeah he was singing praises about the paint job but I never cought the name. The problem I am having is find someone close that is inexpensive. I have a friend that used to work at a reputable place but they are so popular that the guy can charge any price he wants and get away with it.He told me in person that if he is asked for a qoute on a project he doesnt feel like doing he will throw out ridiculous price and people will agree to it. He does great work though.

years ago i used to work at a shop down the street from Vilvians, we did most of their front-end & brake work for them, everything i saw from them was a first class job.
they did a fire damaged hood off a 57 ford retractable for us, the car itself was a 50 footer, they got the hood absolutely perfect right down to the color match & it still looks good even after almost 20 years, its the best part of the car.
i have no ideal if Murry still runs it or not, but he is one great guy.

I have been thinking of an idea for a modding party. I know that there are a few of us who are planning on painting our cars, and I was thinking that if anybody new basic body work that they could teach us to do the prep work for our cars. I know that would save us alot of money since we all have similar vehicles. I would love to learn how to do some of the body work myself so if anybody knows of someone maybe they would be interested in making some extra money.

My shop is adjacent to a body shop and the main body guy there owes me a favor. He also works on Saturdays. So I MIGHT be able to line him up for this sort of project, if anyone is really interested.
Should I try and work something out for before the next meet?

Hey IROCaholic,
I know Larry Dunlap is having his kids car done from the accident a couple months ago--see if that guy he is using, does complete paint jobs--I know he's out in Katy somewhere.

Thanks for the heads up. I think I will give Larry a PM. I am not really worried about the paint job as much as I am the body work. If I can get someone to do the body work and then prep and primer the car that would be cool to.

The owner no longer manages the place so now they do a lot more crash repair and less custom work than when I had my car painted (7 years ago).

Hi All,
I'm interested as well, I need to get the vert done next year. My neighbor is a body guy at McCreedy ford. Was going to see if he could do it on the side. He has worked in a couple of custom shops as well and knows his stuff.

They guy that is repairing maxs car is the Bob Walton, owner of Waltons body and Paint (I think that is the name) on fifth st in Katy. He is an older guy and so far has done a good job, but sllllllloooooooooooooow. If you want it fast, forget abou this guy. He is a hot rodder from way back, got old photos of him and his cars all over the place, real nice guy. I expect to get the car back by the end of next week so I will report results back after that.
