which loctite should I use???

Doing reassembly of valve job.

Which loctite should I use on:

head bolts
intake bolts
header bolts
water pump
other bolts in general like A/C brackets and P/S brackets

The guy at the O'Reillys sold me high temp red, but not sure if that's what I should be using or not!

Also,TPIS says I should use silicone on front and rear of intake instead of normal gaskets. Is the red stuff that says for making gaskets, what I should use there?

THANKS,
Craig

USE RTV Black silicone on front and rear of intake, make sure to get a nice glob at the very corners. As for the locktite, the red stuff is fine (some people even use the silicone as locktite too....). Good luck, I'm glad to hear it's going back together

I only use the loctite on the head and intake bolts and every motor ive built or had a part in building hasnt had any problems. Also do what Fbod said on the china walls of the intake the gaskets they give you suck.

Yes, just use regular RTV silicone (I like the Right Stuff) on the china walls. Gaskets never stay in the proper place. Put a little RTV underneath and on top of the corners of the intake gaskets near the china wall. That will prevent leaks too.

The china walls are in the front and the back of the intake where it meets with the block, not where the intake meats with the heads.

I've never used any RTV on head bolts. If I did though, I'd use the copper, its the highest temp stuff made. Every where else I use black.

i hate the way high temp red looks, the black looks better and on the intake front and back is a no brainer, i usually throw those crappy gaskets away when i get a kit. red loctite though is great, i have some permatex red loctite right here where i assembled the 388 and i wouldnt use anything else.
