Big Boom

I'm sure most of U heard about or heard/felt the big explosion/fire at the chemical plant Fri. night in SW Houston.

Well, I live about a mile from there and it scared the crap out of me! I thought the heater in the attic blew up! The first thing I could think about was getting my IROC out of the garage before the house burnt down.

After a quick check of the house, I discovered it was not anything in the house/attic, but it kinda educated me about where my priorities are! I guess in all reality, there should have been other things that were more important, but....

It did knock one of the shop lights in the garage down and broke the bulbs, but everything else was OK!

don't remember which exact one, I heard the name just passingly on the news later that night. the wife and I drove by the fire while it was still cookin' and that really looked like it was just ruining someone's whole day. we could see the flames from miles away on the beltway and the smoke cloud was enormous!

I know what you mean Zap, those explosions can make your heart skip a beat! I thought something horrid happened over here not that long ago when a rig transporting some sort of chemicals blew the back off of its trailer not a 1/2 mile from my place! Windows shook, walls vibrated, I didn't know what the hell to think!

Whatever actually exploded was not the big problem. All the stored wax was melting and running all over the place and then igniting--that was the hard part to put out.

i think the name of the place is marcus petroleum .
i was at work when it blew. we had just finished closing the shop & were in the office at the time. the shop is a good 15 miles away at griggs & lawndale, we heard a boom & it rattled the walls in the shop pretty heavily. i didn't find out what it was until i saw it on the news that night, the news said people heard it over in dayton.

If that's right by your house, then U must live pretty close to us. You'll have to cruise by sometime and say hello.

We live in a house about a block north of Hillcroft and W. Airport.
