Looking for 6cyl Firebird for son, Houston area
Im trying to get a 87 - 92 Firebird 6cy for my 16 year old son. Need a 6 because they don't classify it a performance car for insurance. Would consider a Camaro but I already have a 91 Firebird Formula and the GM shop manual for those cars, besides, the Firebirds are usually a little cheaper. WE looked at one today actually in Houston. It was a 91, white with nice black pinstriping, 132K, 3.1cid, auto, manual windows and door locks, one headlight not working, needs headliner, driver side seatbelt, freon in ac. Body and paint were good and seemed to run OK, asking $2900. Seem a littel high to me. If we could get it for about $2000 I think it would be ok
If anybody sees one within reasonable distance to Houston, I would appreciate if you let me know.

I dont know exactly right now, but I will find out soon and let you know. Right now I have a 19 year old daughter (2001 Cavalier), Wife (91 Z28) and me (91 Formula). The Cavalier and Formula have full coverage due to loan requirements and we pay about $300/month with no tickets and no accidents. So Im guessing its going to be like $100 to $200 permonth more for him. We've got cheap cars, I don' know how people with expensive cars afford it

Did U look at the white one on Auto Trader?

Yeah, thats the one I was describing in the initial message on here. Its all right really, body looks good, motor and trans seemed ok. They want to much for it, its a little car dealer. I would give them $2000, but Max wasnt't that jazzed about it. He wants to find one with Ttops and ground effects if possible. Go figure. We've got time though, he wont have his license til this summer, so Im not going to rush it right now. In my opinion he will have a tough time finding a better one we can afford in Houston than that white one, but it's possible. Let me know about yours
Im thinking of a 90' and up because that is the first year they hade standard air bags I think. Might be important for him as an inexperieince driver

There is my 92 Firebird for sale AND my roommate's 92 Camaro RS
I'm not going to lie, it could use paint again (the Firebird), and I have a spare front/rear bumper covers that come with it. If you need any pictures if you're interested (in either of them) let me know.
The Camaro is in Nacogdoches (2.5 hrs north of Houston) and the Firebird is in Longview (another hour).

BTW (as you can see I really don't care THAT much about selling my car) are you only looking at liability on your son's car? MANY insurance companies don't particularly care about what the car is when it comes to liability. In fact, the last one I went to just pulled out a chart listing Ages, Sex, and Marital status and told me any car I wanted to insure was $XX/month.
If you can find out the difference between let's say a Firebird V8 (NOT formula or TA) and a Firebird V6....if they're close enough, I'd go with the V8. Kids will be kids, and it won't take long to get tired of a V6. With the TBI V8 though, at least the transmission, radiator, TBI (if you want to keep it), and front springs can be reused for a bigger V8 swap if you decide to later. If you want to do it to a V6, you'll need new front springs, transmission, engine, induction, etc.

The Camaro looks like a possibility, the Firebird a little below what Im looking for. Ive been looking at 100K to 140K miles at about $1900 to $2500. Interesting what you say about insurance. I know the last insurance I had told me they could not list my daughter (who was in high school at that time) as primary driver of the Camaro 305 period, because it was considered a performance car. He said a V6 would not be in that category. I would rather get a 305 to tell you the truth. They are more readily availablel and I think they can be a little more fun without being dangerous. I will check with my current insurance guy and confirm the V6/V8 question.

Ovrclck350 is right,
Most places, for liability they don't care what it is.
I just told them age, status, year of car and size engine.
They hardly ever confirm.
I told them I had a v6 just to get cheaper insurance! LOL
Larry,
I have a 92 RS with Z28 badges and ground effects for sale.
305TBI auto and disc-brake rearend.
I can send you some pics when I get home if your interested just let me know. It's clean.

I saw one in Deer Park.....'84 Firebird, V6, 5-Speed, $1,700. Brown..some rust spots, straight body, interior could use some work, but its a fixer upper from what I can tell from the outside. His name is Rob:
832-347-9392 is his cell
281-479-4940 is his home
I just saw it sitting in a parking lot and copied the info off of it.

Ive seen a couple of pretty good ones on Ebay. Almost bought them, but I am taking my time. Besides its a pain to have to pick it up in Alabama or somewhere. I sure would like to find one around here.
Anybody sees a 90 to 92, 6cyl Firebird, let me know

Absolutely I have seen it. I figured you would have sold that car by now. I was just looking at video of your Hooters donut last night. My son got a video editing program and is fooling around with that old video. By the way, do you still have a link to the video you made from his raw footage? I never did see it. I remember seeing the first one you made.
