Re: Delco Radios with Aux jacks for sale
my82roc; Wanted to post this so you were UTD,...
This is the first CDM radio that I've successfully added an AUX jack to. I did the work about 3 weeks ago, just before the knee surgery. While I expected to get more involved in this modification after the surgery because I thought I'd be 'laid-up' for a couple weeks,..... I was able to walk around just a couple days after surgery and as soon as I could move I HAD to begin the tranny swap in my 05 Trailblazer. As a result I haven't been able to get back to working on these CDM radios yet.
I wanted to update this thread so your aware that I haven't forgotten about you and hope to get back to working on the CDM head units in the next week or so. Might be a little longer as I've got to finish stripping my totaled 04 Trailblazer so it can get scrapped ( need the room in my driveway ! ),...... but I am still working on this !

Re: Delco Radios with Aux jacks for sale
First thing:
TGO used to "time out" and log me out pretty quick..... Like; I'd be in the middle of writing a PM to someone and it would log me out before I was done writing and ready to send the PM. Well: Things have changed !! I have not viewed TGO in 3-4 days, yet the entire time the site has been open on my desktop and it appears as if I'm "ONLINE" all the time. I am NOT online 24hours a day, I just didn't log out (manually) before walking away from my computer.
twinnotchbacks,..... I'm a little behind right now and need to do a little catching up. I'll write back thru PM as soon as possible with some info for you. ( sorry for the delay !)

Re: Delco Radios with Aux jacks for sale
firebirddude142; I do not have either of those 2 styles available. The CD player is more or less "un-obtainium" and the cassette deck is also tough to find in quality condition due to it's limited usage. ( 91 & 92 only IIRC)
To everyone else; I'm just returning to my workbench after a few weeks away to deal with other - yes more important - things. I know a few people are waiting on my response, however I did not have any open transactions & did not start any new transactions while I was away from the site. I've gotten a bit of space cleared off my my bench again and will begin to pull out head units for pictures and will be writing back to all in the next day or 2 with updates. Sorry for any inconvenience; I simply HAD to focus on a few personal "priorities" once the knee healed up enough for me to move around good again. ( and boy have I been busy playing catch-up !! )

Re: Delco Radios with Aux jacks for sale
This was my first CDM radio,... there was no need to interact with the CD mech and I'm pretty sure the cassette style CDM will be the same. Compared to the earlier '82-95' style cassette radios,....... I would say the CDMs are harder. No good way to anchor the cable inside the Receiver, have to cut traces on the circuit board, and really tiny solder points. Experience matters,... I've probably done about 60-70 80's style radios, but only 1 of the CDM head units, so the more of them I do the better I'll get at it

Re: Delco Radios with Aux jacks for sale
I've been active with members thru PM's thru the 'off season' but haven't touched this thread in some time so it's time for a pre-spring 2019 BUMP!
I try and keep most style 80s-90s GM Delco head units ready and available in factory original condition; that includes just about all GM vehicles; cars and trucks from all GM Model lines 84-96 ( Chevy, Pontiac, Caddy, Buick, Olds, GM Truck ect.... ) Right now about the only radio I DON"T have available is a Thirdgen Firebird UX1. I've got a few radios already prepared with an AUX upgrade, but most of the time radios are kept original until I get a request and the person has a chance to pic the radio they want before I'll install the AUX Jack. AUX is available on a cable for most radios, or on the face-plate on others.
* TO MY82ROC I have installed a cable mounted AUX jack to a few of the CDM style radios at this point so I'm a bit more comfortable in my ability to successfully install the AUX on SOME of those types of head units without causing any harm. However; this is limited to the 1-board style CDM Receivers. In the picture below the 1-board Receiver is pictured on the LEFT. I do not yet perform the AUX modification to the 2-board style Receivers shown on the RIGHT, and NO mods to the GTA CDM Receivers ! (picture shows 2 Bonneville radios - not GTA radios.)
Last month I did a bunch of repair work to a big stack of dead GM Delco BOSE AMPs. I was able to get about 85% of the AMPs I rebuilt working normally again. About 25 were repaired, about 4 had burnt circuit boards that were beyond repair and another 4 that I couldn't fix for unknown reasons. So; If you need an original Thirdgen replacement AMP or possibly some newer 100 Watt replacement AMPs I've a few to choose from. If you need to get your BOSE amps repaired,... I should be able to help with that too !

I saw that on ebay. I am trying to confirm that it is correct by asking for a picture of the unit from one of the 3 gen guys.

Re: Delco Radios with Aux jacks for sale
specified FIREBIRD CD player. duh!
Most of my web searches for Thirdgen info like this almost always lead right back to TGO.......
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/car-...ntiac-u1a.html
The radio to the RIGHT was the 93-94 Pontiac Trans Am CD head unit.

Re: Delco Radios with Aux jacks for sale
These are very hard to come by.Trying to find a working cd mechanism for this one

Re: Delco Radios with Aux jacks for sale
Myroc,... I worked thru my stuff this weekend and don't have a spare replacement CD mech to offer Ya'; don't know if I can help...... You could check with doctor Don or M&N for a re-manufactured unit. Other than that your next option is to buy a lesser CD player head-unit and pull a working used mech from it. If you get lucky you can find an early 90's car in the local bone-yards with a more common CDM CD head unit and swap the Mechs. (U-pull-it = Cheapest option) Gotta' be pretty lucky to find them in the bone-yards these days; There's NUTHIN' currently available in the yards around me. Almost every car they take in is Y2K or newer. (90-95%) If I come across anything ---I'll let you know.

Received my radio with aux input from John for my 90 Camaro. Near new condition, packaged to take the abuse you get from UPS on its journey up to Canada. Prompt and professional to deal with. Thanks john.

Re: Delco Radios with Aux jacks for sale
my82Roc: Thanx for the info !
Mikey: Glad it arrived safe ! Those packages that get shipped to Canada always make me worry a little !
Blue89Bird: I've got the 4th Gen CD player in Very nice shape,... but I do not add an AUX to that style radio because I have not found a way to do it without requiring a functional CD player. I don't like that idea because if the CD player dies,... your left with nothing but FM. To add an AUX to the 4th gen units I'd recommend using a PXDX (AUX adapter) and PXHGM1 (cable) digital AUX IN from iSimple. There are probably other brands available on the aftermarket too, but I have heard only good things about ISimple. ( I'm also using an ISimple adapter on my 2005 Trailblazer too. ) Here is a picture of the the 4th gen CD unit; $70 + shipping.
I've also got 1 early 90's Pontiac CD with EQ and an AUX jack on a cable for remote mounting. That CD/EQ/AUX head unit is $365 + shipping. This is a picture of thqat head unit BEFORE the AUX was installed: ( CD player on the RIGHT. )

Re: Delco Radios with Aux jacks for sale
Ok, John! As I mentioned in the PM, I'll take that nice Bose unit out of the '89 Corvette - with the AUX jack please! Funds were transferred this morning via Paypal.
I hope you'll answer a few more questions for me. I pulled out the aftermarket head unit last night and here's what I found:
As you can see, there are three smaller connectors (1 blue, 1 white, and 1 black) coming from inside the dash. They all snap into the large white connector which in turn is spliced into the wires going into the back of the head unit. I'll get my shop manual out tonight and track this down, but from what you see here do I have everything I need to hook up the new factory head unit? Do the three small connectors snap directly into the back of the factory unit?
Let me know what you come up with regarding the 6x9 Bose setup. I think I want to get the factory system back operational and then maybe look into upgrading with some 6x9 Bose speakers for the sail panels.
I will also let you know what's going on with my amps, and whether I will want to have you rebuild them.
Thanks again!!

Doug, You've got a long-winded PM coming later today,... I've got to keep it brief this morning;
I'm REAL GLAD too see that your original harness is still intact. Thanx for posting the pics - it helps ! Going to have to get you a harness adapter,... The Vette radio uses the older style plugs.

Re: Delco Radios with Aux jacks for sale
Hi John,
I'm wondering if one of these will work in my '85 if I use a plug adapter, do you have one and an adapter and how much? Or possibly one of the Bonneville decks in your post above is still available and how much?
Thanks,

Re: Delco Radios with Aux jacks for sale
Steve,
<NOTE> There's 2 'flavors' to this radio. I could be wrong but I think the vintage is 92-94 and it was installed in Grand Prix, Bonneville and Firebird in 93 I think. One 'flavor' is wired exactly like your Thirddgen and the other will require an extra plug to get the radio back lighting to work properly. ( splice 2-wires ) Yes,.... I have this radio; I'm not sure what "flavor" you might get because I have more than 1 like this. & Yes,... an adapter could be used in order to make this head unit basically plug and play compatible with your 85. ( SEE: <NOTE> ! ) Are you looking for a "show" quality radio ?? Stock head unit or with an AUX jack ? Is a working cassette deck mandatory ?? Can't really price one for you right now because I've got more than 1, ( factory perfect or used with a scratched lens for example ) and costs would vary based on the way it was built/prepared.
I do still have a couple 4th gen F-Body ( 90's Grand Prix / Bonneville ) CD with EQ players available. @ $70 + shipping that head unit would be one of the least expensive head units I've got. ( my "best" condition Pontiac Cassette EQ - as pictured above - is more priced more than double that 4th gen CD/EQ head-unit.)

I have a factory 1989 turbo trans am radio that will not eject cassette. The mechanism is stuck down. Can you fix that and maybe add an aux cable?

Re: Delco Radios with Aux jacks for sale
Chopped; I'm not doing any GTA Head unit work for anyone right now. While I've learned a couple 'hacks' along the way, I do not have a fully functional GTA radio set-up on my testing station and can't operate all of the GTA radio controls to verify full functionality. I've also got very few GTA radio spare parts at the moment so even if I could properly/completely test the head-unit - I probably couldn't fix it due to a lack of good working parts.
Don't know if the stuck cassette means that you don't have a working radio right now,...... but I do have some replacement radios you might like if you need something. As far a as I know; the only radio that will operate the factory steering wheel controls is another GTA radio; but any other Pontiac ( or GM for that matter ) deck will plug in and play music for Ya'.
Dave; You have a P/M coming,...... but I gotta' eat sumthin' first. Been a looooooong night and I'm strarvin' !
Steve; I've got an update for You too,... you should see a PM sometime this afternoon with some details for Ya'.

John,
I sent you a PM. Following your diagnostic advice, it looks like I definitely have 3 bad amps, but the radio appears to be 100%! Let me know if you want to rebuild the amps.
Thanks for your awesome service and for sharing your vast knowledge of these stereo systems!
I couldn't be happier with my purchase!

Re: Delco Radios with Aux jacks for sale
John, since I can't post pictures in PM's, take a look here. This is the left rear Bose enclosure in my '89 IROC. You can see that the foam wire insulation on top of the amp has the distinct impression of the cross hatching on the enclosure cover pressed into it. This tells me that the fit is very tight, and an amp that was any taller than the existing unit would not fit. Thoughts?

( Had to re-write this post ! ) Yes,... now I see what you're saying. I'm curious to know if any sections of the hatch box cover might be able to be cut-away in the area above the AMP to provide additional clearance. A picture of the inside of the hatch cover perhaps ?? I'm hoping to find - OR MAKE - at least 1/2" worth of space between the AMP and the box. Can you do me another favor?? Before you re-assemble your hatch box,............... Can you sit a double AA battery on top of the AMP and see if the cover will fit without interference ?? (In an area without the foam impressions maybe ? ) I doubt it will after seeing your pics - but would still like to know. )

Re: Delco Radios with Aux jacks for sale
I've got 2 Berlinetta CUSTOM Stereos available,... 1 an 84-85 and 1 an 86 style; The Receiver (AKA: "brain" ) is not shown but included with each unit. These are each 1-of-a-kind items built using factory parts. ( GM never made a non-cassette WITH EQ. ) On each radio the face-plate around the radio pocket has some scuffs here-&-there. It's an easily removable piece and simple to restore if so desired. I left them as is so it's up to the next owner to detail as they wish.
The 84-85 is $125 + shipping and 86 is $160 + shipping. A cord mounted AUX jack upgrade is also available for an additional $65. Send PM that includes your ZIP code for shipping quotes if interested.

FYI To other members: when I rebuild the BOSE AMPs, the 6 Capacitors circled in this picture are what get replaced.

There is very little extra space between the top of the amp and the underside of the cover. This picture shows that if one were to cut away the cross ribs on the underside of the cover, there's only maybe 1/4" of available space.

Re: Delco Radios with Aux jacks for sale
I have a 86 IROC-Z. I had purchased one with an aux jack from this site and come to find out the fade (Front to rear didn't work, so I am looking for a black faced with the cassette and the auxiliary. The aux port had a lot of static when I put my player on it.

Re: Delco Radios with Aux jacks for sale
Sorry to hear you didn't end up with a better radio radio; Front/Rear FADE isn't a very common problem with the radios. For what it's worth,....... about 80-85% of the original used radios I get are "bad" in some way, usually a bad Right side output and almost ALWAYS have dead bulbs. The next most common problem is a dead cassette deck.
Here are 2 of the 87 and earlier UX1 head units I've got. Both are used Head-units: the one on the LEFT is from a 90 S10 Blazer and the one on the RIGHT is from an 87 IROC.
These are the only 2 used Chevy UX1's I've got right now with the correct plug socket for your car. The LEFT radio face-plate is in a bit better shape than the face-plate on the RIGHT; but the one on the right has the correct BLACK display lens. ( S10, Blazer, Suburban Radios have a BLUE display lens,...... A factory installed Camaro Radio will have a BLACK display lens. ) The Radio on the LEFT has had the AMP board restored & the radio on the LEFT is in factory original condition. If you're looking for a show car head-unit; I've also got a factory authorized re-manufactured Chevy UX1 rebuilt by Untied Radio --- That radio will be priced at a premium compared to the 2 used units pictured above.\
Dave - Thnax a TON for taking the time to check into that. I REALLY wish that there was just a bit more extra space inside that box.
