Re: Parking Lot Paparazzi
I was driving through a town today and spotted this sitting in a driveway. I had to go around the block to look at it again. Looked really nice, but the stripes were all pieced together with the wrong ones... I'd still love to have it!!

Greensboro, NC. This ones been in this parking spot for many years. It looks too good to be forgotten but I dont recall seeing it ever being out of this space. It has a sun visor thats fallen down. I think that dark red looks fabulous on our cars.

Re: Parking Lot Paparazzi
Three years after my original post, and this car is FINALLY for sale. After 19 years sitting behind this old back-woods body shop.
I could not resist, had to check it out. First thing I notice when I pull up is the original factory tailpipes. Good start. I didn't know what year it was; I was hoping '84 HO 5-speed, but it was an '82 LG4. Window was {conveniently} broken out about 5 years back, so I could stick my head in. '82 has million mile speedo, and this car shows just 52,000 original miles. Damn it! Would have been a nice score 20 years ago. At this point, its garbage. Bottom is totally rusted out, interior appears to have been raided for parts. Certainly not worth the $1000. I may call and offer scrap value price for it. I guessing no title. Just what I don't need, another parts car. But what a sad fate for a low mile car.

This car has a story!
In the '90's I worked at the headquarters of a very large trucking company. Preston Trucking; you north easterners may remember them. They went belly up in the summer of '99. I live in a very rural area, so I was forced to become a commuter. That summer, I took a job 90 miles (one way) away, and started carpooling. Our meeting spot was across the street from a small, run down body shop. One day, I saw this 82-84 Z28 sitting out front. It had been totally repainted, and looked like a million dollars. They had even sprayed the factory rims silver, which looked...odd. One day the hood was up, and I think I noticed that it was CFI, but I'm not sure. I stopped carpooling with the guy around Christmas of '99, so I know the car was repainted sometime in the second half of '99.
And it sat.
And it sat some more.
And it continued to sit.
About 10 years back, I stopped at the body shop, when I noticed there was someone there, and asked about the car. "Not for sale" is all he would tell me, as if he had been asked 1,000 times before.
I did not worry about it. 8 years back, I bought a house that is only a few miles from this body shop, and I have seen the car basically every day since then, as I ride by the shop on my way to and from work. It's moved several times over the years. For a long time it sat next to the shop. About a year ago, it was pushed/pulled/dragged behind the shop. At one point, I noticed the driver window was down (or broken out), but at this point, I cant see if that is still the case.
My best guess is that someone had the car painted, but did not have the money when the bill came due. It's all very strange. There has never been a for-sale sign on the car. Maybe one of these days I'll stop in and inquire, but I think the car is pretty toasty at this point, 16+ years later. I've always had a thing for 82-84 Z28's, probably because they were so plentiful when I started driving.
Sorry for the lousy pic. It's behind the shop, and hard to snap a pic of.

Most are looking pretty rough. I see a couple on my daily commute that seem to be in good shape by the brief passings I have. Most around here are weekend toys or garage candy (like my own). Maybe one summer I will trade the Z28 into daily driver status for a couple months.

Here's a fleet of irocs at a shop down the road from my house. They're all projects, and supposedly the owner plans on combining them all in to one car. We all know how that usually ends up. Other is a 91 base bird behind a fence close to my work. Another story of a car that's been there apparently 10 years yet of course "isn't for sale"

I felt this one in my heart. Only GTA, nevermind a 92, that I've ever seen in a scrapyard. It was a clean car with only 120km, but the idiot crane kid decided to cave it in with the claw and see how far the crane could throw it without knowing what the car was.

His name is Paul and lives in New York. A member of our TTA Group. It was having some work done to it and the mechanic lost control and wrecked on a test drive. It was totaled by insurance company. It happened 2 weeks ago.

Drove like 45 minutes to check this out. Probably wouldnt have bothered if the lady couldve told me it wasnt a z28. Small uninteresting salvage yard. There were like 5 4th gens though, maybe some stuff off those I should go back for later for my 3rd gen.

Ive never understood why they dont get more attention in the turbo buick community. G bodies are my personal fav cars but third gen handling with the heart of a grand national is your perfect 80's performance machine.

Precisely why I say no test drives, and why I don't leave the car at a shop unattended. My gauges also log RPM and speed, which I told the truck driver when it was loaded on to a hauler for a cross country move.

That is exactly the reason he was leaving Bob! He got the car home and in the garage about 3 min. before the downpour.
