Re: Did they really make a brown IROC?
I have never seen or heard of a brown iroc, I have a 1987 myself and I know that color was not produced. Not trying to argue or start up anything just stating facts.

The * on the bottom left reads *IROC Z28 available in these colors only.
Colors marked with the * are as follows...
Bright Blue Met.
White
Black
Yellow
Dark Red Met
Bright Red
Dark Brown Met is not listed in the available color options for the IROC in the 1987 Camaro brochure I got when I ordered my car new and there ain't no lighter brown.

Re: Did they really make a brown IROC?
Just post up your SPID list with the RPOs along with the pictures of your car. if you can't post any pictures just write out the RPOs along with the paint code on the bottom row which would tell us for sure what color it is your describing as brown. You got my interest too. Are you sure it isn't a Z28 which did come in brown that year and not an IROC-Z28?

Re: Did they really make a brown IROC?
Anyone can put IROC-Z on a Z28 to make it look like a real IROC-Z28. Does it have B4Z in the RPOs in your console that matches the Vin# on the dash? A picture of that would seal the deal. Then you have the real deal rare car and not a want-to-be IROCZ in dark brown code #68.

Re: Did they really make a brown IROC?
This isn't an argument. I'm just trying to help you validate what you have. If you bought the car new as you said, just look in your console for the RPO B4Z. That is the final resolution to the question, "do I have a brown IROCZ". Not that complicated is it?

That would have been a cool color combo. Many years ago a friend had a 1979 T/A that was heritage brown with gold graphics & camel interior. Was very sharp imo.

Yes, and I have to say it actually looked really nice with the gold accent. It was chocolate brown metallic. I'm no fan of a brown car but this was an acception.

Re: Did they really make a brown IROC?
The Z28 it was an option, the Russet Brown with the Gold GFX... The IROC always was a monotone, the GFX were always the same color as the car, just like the GTA. Silver stripe makes me wonder if it is a Red Metallic and under some conditions it has a Brown hue, or a Z28. We are still looking for pictures of the Unicorn..

I've seen the Z28 in that dark brown, with gold wheels, gold multi-striping, gold ground effects, and a tan interior. One of the few combinations that look good in brown, but no IROCZs.

Re: Did they really make a brown IROC?
I believe the Russet Brown from Pontiac was the same Color as the Dark Brown from Chevrolet. They made the color sound more "fancy" for Pontiac.
The Tell tale will be the 68U, and the WW(Number) RPO... On Base Camaros and Base Firebirds that did not have GFX they often used an RPO like 68L to indicate the lower color. I believe the GFX cars used WW(Number) RPO for the lower code. At least that is how the Firebird is marked.

Re: Did they really make a brown IROC?
I got it. The dealer threw a IROC Z sticker on the doors and sold it to him!!! Yeah, that's it.
This dealer was a real shady dealer off the beaten path, so to speak. He sold Moonshine at the parts counter too....

Re: Did they really make a brown IROC?
fuel pump question would be another thread, but i'll give my opinion. it depends on the condition of the car and what you intentions are for it. you might even be surprised when you pull the carpet back to find someone over the years already made a hole as this was a common practice for years and still is for shadetree's.

Anytime a new member comes on board (BTW welcome aboard Big Hat) ....and starts claiming to have things that shouldn't exist, while at the same time being unwilling to provide the simple proof as to what the claim was, I always feel SOME sort of Star Wars reference helps to lighten the mood.

I was kidding...it was actually a trap. .....although I agree with you.

Re: Did they really make a brown IROC?
Todd, this board is not about arguments, it is about getting to the truth. If you have a legit Brown IROC-Z that would be very very cool. If you cannot produce evidence, and it appears we are arguing, we are not arguing, we are simply stating known facts, and until our facts change with evidence, we will stick to what we know as facts. Unfortunately up to this point there has been nothing other than your word that indeed a dark brown IROC exists. We just want truth around here, we are not going to say "cool" and then move on, it does no one any good to just accept you at your word, without proof. This is the "History" section you stumbled into by the way. Give us a pic, show us the SPID, throw us a bone here buddy... We are all on the same side...

Re: Did they really make a brown IROC?
It's pretty straight forward, if you have something that all the usual suspects say doesn't exist, all you have to do is share the documentation. A nice clear photo of the list of RPO codes inside the console goes a long way to authenticating the story.
Otherwise, we're likely to assume the new member making the claim is either confused, or is telling tall tales. Documentation is awesome.
You wouldn't happen to have some documentation, would you Todd? Pretty please? Sugar on top?
Edit: Todd's avatar image, fullsized.

Drew, That image appears to be red metallic, not brown.

Re: Did they really make a brown IROC?
That picture show s a Dark Red Metallic car, not a brown car. Under certain lighting conditions, it does have a brown hue to it, but it isn't brown. I'd like to know where you got the paint code and color that was mentioned above. Did you get it from the SPID label or did you just look up what you thought was the color? If you got it from the SPID, can you post a picture?

Nothing wrong with selling a lil shine, my Great Grandfather only did 3 stints for it back in the day. I even use to make a lil here and there until my bro n law graduated the police academy

Re: Did they really make a brown IROC?
My brother had this in high school in 1986. The car was a 1982 plain jane Camaro with the carburated 305. It was hit in the front when my Dad bought it for him, and he had the car fixed and bought all of the Z28 gfx and stripes. Notice the wrong hood and wrong taillights for a Z. But you get the idea....he just wanted it to be a better looking car for his son. I thought it was actually a pretty cool car. Unfortunately, my other brother and one of his buddies totalled that car just a couple months after this pic was taken.....then 3 years later, my brother in this picture was killed in another 82 Z28 that's a twin car to the one I own now..

The SPID or your original sales invoice would be nice, or if that isn't your car in your avatar, the actual car would do.
A doctor's note saying your are color blind would be fine as well.
