I have an 85 Trans Am that I'm restoring that was in an accident by the PO that smashed in the rear passenger quarter panel beyond repair. I read a few threads about them being replaceable, but how do you get at the seam? And are the Goodmark replacement panels any good?
Yes I was referring to the room seam. It seems the general process is to remove the interior plastics, carpet, seats, etc. Then drill out the spot welds, and weld in a new panel, right? And thank you for the heads up, I'd like to buy a quality panel when I do the repair.
I've had good luck with Goodmark panels/hoods. I had to repair my driverside quarter where the P/O backed into a fence post, it too was beyond repair. Instead of taking the entire quarter off though I simply cut out the portion of the replacement quarter that I needed and had it welded in.
I will definitely read up on cutting and splicing in a new panel. Thanks for the feedback on the Goodmark ones, I think I just need to reskin the panel, but unfortunately the damage covers most or the panel, so it might just be worth it for me to replace the entire panel.
