Interesting this came back up. Since August, I've been letting the computer shift the 4L60E. Came about because I needed to add a 75 shot to get under the ET requirement for one class, that caused all sorts of issues, including a time that I forgot to shift (was using an RPM window switch and was fascinated by watching it turn on the nitrous), over-rev'd the engine, which automatically shut down the nitrous (via a top-side limiter in the window switch), and caused me to not qualify for the class that day (2 chances to qualify, I forgot to arm the nitrous on the other pass). So, I figured out how to program the shift points so it would shift by itself at the right times. Also came in handy when I went down to a lower altitude and the car picked up more than it did on the 75 shot.
So, I'm thinking I'm going to put the stock shifter back in, and let someone else enjoy the Megashifter.
Once this 700 gives up (and it's held up remarkably well considering what I've put it through), I thought about a move to a 4L60E or 4L65E and the available electronic shifting. A friend has a 4L65 behind the LSX454 in his Chevelle and he loves the computer shifting for him. Just mash the pedal and hang on.
Personally, I like shifting, up and down, but then again, if I were in competition I'd probably opt for the set point shifting too.
I've also thought about a T56....
I have a TCI street fighter shifter which I will be using with my TH350. Anybody use this before? I got a hell of a deal on it last year so i picked up it at a swap meet.
th400=hurst pistol grip 1/4 stick, awesome piece
powerglide=b&m pro stick, not as nice as the 1/4 stick
th350=hurst non pistol grip 1/4 stick, nice piece, better than pro stick, not as nice as pistol grip
700r4/4l60e=stock shifter with b&m gate (can't find that gate anymore though)
you couldn't give me a megashifter...every single one i messed with was a total piece of crap.
hurst pro-billet in the t56....best mod ever
Matt,
I'm wanting to ditch my megashifter and seen you recommend the pistol grip 1/4 stick for the th400. What are your thoughts on the b and m stealth magnum pro? They are both gated shifters. Any input would be great.
Yes I know this thread is way old, but can someone help with my install of my Turbo Cheetah? I see a few guys running them. RMVB. Make your own brackets? Any install pics?
This is where i want it, but the brackets extend way past that metal bracket that runs from side to side.
Bump.
Old thread or otherwise, I'll be interested to see your finished results. Hopefully someone here can offer up some advice.
Yeah hopefully Orr responds as I've sent him a msg or anyone that has or did one. I guess I might be able to take my old shifter off the base plate and maybe mount the Cheetah to it, not sure. Or new brackets made. As always, I'm looking for the quick, tell me what u did so I can do it approach haha.
I didnt see this. I made some simple t shape brackets to bolt the cheetah to. Mounted the brackets to the trans tunnel
Thanks. Sounds simple enough. Saw something on the Gram about Surgery. Hope all is well with ya. Also, I sent u a msg on there as well, just disregard.
