Newly acquired low mile 82 Z28
Original right down to the Eagle GT tires
After new stripe kit (originals were peeling in a lot of places) and put new tires on. Original tires looked good, just dont trust 36 year old rubber. I kept them though. I'm pissed about the aftermarket stripes not matching the originals worth a damn, but can NOT find nos stripes in the dark red, light red, black combo

Re: Newly acquired 20k mile 1982 Z28
I bought it from a 71 year old man, and stole it for $6,000. I have looked for an 82 Z28 in this color combo for probably 20 years and have never found one. I had an older brother that was killed in a twin car to this one back in 1989, when I was just 13 years old. (Only difference was his was a 4 speed) Anyways, I was thrilled to finally find a twin to his car, and it was a bonus that it was a pristine 20k mile original car. Anyone ever seen one this color combo????

Re: Newly acquired 20k mile 1982 Z28
The brighter decal is an NOS original, compared to the new kit from Classic Industries. I am NOT HAPPY. That NOS stripe is a driver side rear quarter stripe and is the only GM stripe ive been able to find that color. That quarter stripe is up next to a door stripe, that's why the width is different.

Sorry to hear about your brother, man.. I guess this car came into your life for a reason..
The car looks great! I had a console clock on my 1985 Z28. I had white with black metallic ground effects and black and silver stripes. Had the TPI motor. Never seen another like it..
Congrats on the car!

Thanks guys!
Does anyone happen to know who makes stripe kits that actually match??

You can try Phoenix Graphix. They might be able to send you a sample for comparison.
I knew the charcoal GFX was available in the beginning, but I couldn't find proof. Thanks for posting this and I love that color combo!!!

Thanks for the compliment on my car! Evidently it wasn't a very popular color combo.....my brothers car and mine are the only two 82s I've ever seen this color. And I've looked for YEARS.....and have probably owned 40 third gens, and am a huge fanatic lol

Re: Newly acquired 20k mile 1982 Z28
Classic doesn't manufacture most of their parts. They were probably made by Phoenix Graphix or Stencils & Stripes. Best bet would be to get ahold of Classic Industries, let them know what's wrong, and send them plenty of photos so that they can hopefully get the manufacturer to correct future runs of their products.
We need to let the vendors know when there's something wrong, or they'll just assume no one cares, and the product will never get better.
If Classic Industries can't help, contact Phoenix with the same info, and hope for better service. Seems I've read about problems with some of the repro stripes before. Might do a search...

AWESOME score on that Z28 !! It would have gone for WAY MORE on EPAY lol
But I have to ask, Why would you want a car similar to what your brother died in ?? Wouldn't that bring up bad memories for you or your family from long ago ??

Seems very rare that any aftermarket decals are spot on. sometimes not even close almost as if it was completely on purpose (possibly fears of GM lawsuits without approval?)
On my 68 GTO there is a tire inflate sticker that is so simple, but yet the aftermarket looks a little different & its slightly a different size. makes no sense to me....

I've had a lot of people ask me that. That car was my brothers pride and joy. I have tons of awesome memories of riding in that Z with him, jammin to Def Leppard on the Alpine, etc....even him telling me that if anything ever happened to him while he owned the car that I could have it. He let me drive it a lot (I was 13 lol). He was my idol. Seeing the car for the first time was kind of like seeing an old long lost friend. It was a car that you just always expected to see pull in the driveway. I asked all of my family how they felt about the car before I purchased it. They all felt the same way I did. After all, it's not THE car.......that, would be a lot different

Great car!!! Enjoy it. I'm with Drew and Scott above regarding the stripes. Bitch and moan about the stripes and provide plenty of pics. If we don't complain about substandard parts, nothing will improve.

What a nice Z28 and a great find. Driving this car must give you goosebumps, but it a good way, like going back to a time of fond memories.
I know you just put a set of BFG's on it, but if you are into originality, Kelsey tire is reproducing the Eagle GT's. They are expensive at $360/tire though.

As far as goosebumps.....yes. I had the car delivered to me in an enclosed trailer, and when it arrived it was the first time I'd seen the car in person. After the delivery guys were gone, not gonna lie.....I broke down a little.

I found it on Craigslist. It was in Rochester, MN. About 2 1/2 hours from here. I found it within 5 min after I got a call saying a guy was coming to buy my Harley. I was gong to buy a yellow 86 IROC with 40k miles. Did one more quick looksie on craigslist and there it was. The guy had just listed it. Perfect timing

Here's the dash emblem out of my brothers wrecked car. Its the exact one thats in my car. Figured it'd show the colors better than taking a pic inside my car

So about 2 weeks after I got my car, my brother decided to trade off his Harley for an f body, too! It's his first ever f body, and he's 51 years old! (It was the brother between us in age that was killed) His new pride and joy is a 51,000 mile 1987 GTA. All original other than the tires and a flowmaster muffler. It's a tuned port 305, 5 speed car. Pretty damn nice hot rod!

Thanks! Yeah the car is pretty crazy....you'd never guess it had 20k miles. There's zero evidence that the car has ever been dirty, or even wet. It still smells new on the inside. It's pretty nuts. There's not even a water spot........anywhere.

Mines an 88 Formula with the 5 speed as well but my 305 was blown and I put a 350 with a FiTech conversion. Mines 210k and looks like its been fed through a blender.
As you can see it still needs some love

So.....I had an 87 IROC-Z back in 1994 that I traded for an 87 Buick Grand National. Anyways, I traded cars with people from Rochester, MN so mine ended up there too. Here's the car..
1987, 5.7 tpi, t tops, maroon with gray interior. 48k miles. Pic was taken the last day of my senior year of high school. The one and only time I stood on the roof.

I too, lost my brother in a similar type roll over accident. He was 19 and I was 22... his car was a 93 Z28 many years back now and it was damaged in the same location during impact. I am emotional writing this and don't talk about it much, but I think that it's wonderful that you and your other brother now have thirdgens to enjoy together and in memory of him as well, like you are all together again in a way.
It's a gorgeous car, i'm a huge survivor car guy and yours looks stunning. My first car that I owned for many years was an 86 Z, same color combo... silver, charcoal on the bottom, red stripes, and a red interior.

I have been looking for another 82 Z28 this color for a long time. Still haven't found one. Besides, finding an 82 that isn't ragged out is next to impossible. I can't believe someone has found one in next to NEW condition. I would pay dearly for that car......Mine was nearly identical, same maroon interior, although mine didn't have the clock in the console. Mine also had the cross fire injection 305. I had to put the "Centerline" style rims on mine as you can see, they were very hot back in the day. BTW, I currently own a 1987 IROC Z28 with 23,000 original miles. Just need to find that elusive silver 82 Z28 to put next to the IROC in the garage.........My search continues

But if I happen to stumble across another one somehow, I know who to message! They must not have made many this color combo AT ALL. I've seen a million of these cars in every other color combo but this one. And like you pointed out....I thought if I ever DID find an 82 this color, it'd be trashed, and id spend a fortune restoring it.
And, I like the Cragars on yours!

Damn I want your car, lol......Just like for you, just seeing your pictures brings back so many great memories. That car was very special to me. I don't believe I have seen another one (until today) the same color, same color stripes, same interior. I would definitely give you a very handsome profit for the car if you ever considered selling. Please keep me in mind and give me the first chance to buy it if you are ever ready to sell. She would definitely be getting a great home and be pampered. You are very lucky to have found that car......and damn.....No offense but you stole that thing!
