Re: INTERESTING 82 Z28 ON CRAIGSLIST
I remember back in '82 there was a Hot Rod magazine article about the Gulstrand cars, and one of them was the first production '82, N100001. I wonder what the VIN on that car is?

Re: INTERESTING 82 Z28 ON CRAIGSLIST
This is really cool and has really cool history, but I'm not sure if cool translates into $16k? It borders on obscure and one-off in such a way that I'm not sure it is really worth a ton more than a normal '82 in that condition.
I'd like more details on the engine, trans, suspension, brakes and gearing....

Re: INTERESTING 82 Z28 ON CRAIGSLIST
If this is the actual car, I remember it! This could be the one with the prototype HO motor. People were claiming it had a 350, (it didn't ), because it's performance far surpassed the LG4. You were allowed to race in the factory prototype class if the changes were coming to the showroom in the next model year. I need to see those pics when I'm not on my phone.

"Up for sale is my 1982 Camaro z28. Car has 10,000 original miles and is in great shape. Garaged most of its life. It a manual trans v8. Roll cage and performance suspension. I have many wheels and tires to go with it too. This isn't your ordinary every day Camaro. This vehicle is a race winner of the Nelson Ledges Longest Day race! Not only is it a race winner but was also driven by celebrities during this race. It was driven under Dick Goulgstrands ownership. During that race it was driven by James Brolin, John Greenwood, Pat Bedard and Rick Mancuso. 10,000 original miles! This car is in excellent shape, low mileage, and needs nothing. Tire kickers need not respond. I'm sorry to see this vehicle go especially with it's history but it's time to see it off to a good home with someone who will take care of it. Serious buyers only, this is a piece of racing history and a beautiful machine. Any questions feel free to call or text."

Geez, A six minute Spanktrovision video touting the wonders of the Gatorback. Where's the vomiting smiley when I need him. Actually the video is pretty hilarious for virtually everything captured on film. They focus on the SVO Mustang as much or more than the Z28. Laughed heartily when the hero cars lapped the smashed Pinto just trying to make his way home...
I mean I hope they're really proud of themselves beating up on that high tech race car, and the Shelby Chrysler, and all the other 'hot' cars for 1983/84. It was like pistol-whipping a blind kid.

I don't know, that little 4cyl with a hairdryer wasn't doing too bad. The SVO Mustang was goofy looking, but it had heart. It was a radical departure for Ford in 84. An overhead cam 4cyl, intercooled turbocharged, 4wheel discs, 5 lug wheels, factory Koni's, factory Hurst shifter, Gatorbacks, 16" wheels, aero front end before it was cool, Even the seats were racy versions over the GT, with mighty bolsters, adjustments kinda like Lear Sieglers, inflatable lumbar controlled with a blood pressure cuff style squeeze bulb. And who could forget the 85mph speedometer that had unmarked hashes up to 140mph to be compliant with Judge Dredd. Innovative for Ferd. I'll still take the thirdgen.

I really like the SVOs. I'm sort of secretly looking for one.

Re: INTERESTING 82 Z28 ON CRAIGSLIST
Me too, Jeremy. Any number of Foxes catch my eye, from the '82 GTs on up. I remember test driving a new red '82 GT back in the day. Comparatively slow today, but a game changer back then. It was interesting how Ford engineers put that package together with off the shelf parts. And a year later, Chevy responded with an L-69.
I guess my Holy Grail would be an unmolested, 1987-1989, 5.0, LX, 5 speed, notchback.

I'm partial to the '86 myself. 4 eyes, dual snorkle, grey interior with red piping...

And here I thought there was something wrong with only the moderators of the History Forum, since all past and present mods have Mustangs too.

I came "this close" (you can't see this, but my fingers are really, really close together) to buying a couple of them, though both post-4 eye. Both convertibles, one a 7-Up car. test drove both. Called the next morning to talk about the white on white one, and the dealer had decided to wholesale it rather than fix a sticking throttle.

Re: INTERESTING 82 Z28 ON CRAIGSLIST
Got close enough to the Converti-stang thing a few years ago. Brother in law picked up this $1200 91 5.0. Typical Fox body, had full exhaust an no-cat H-pipe and a blown out intake gasket dumping oil everywhere. After fixing the gasket issue, a fuel tank, fuel pump, distributor... Ran really good, then he decided he wanted a 5spd and more flash, so he sold it and bought a red/white feature car. Then the train went off the rails, New Edge Mach 1, and a brand new red Coyote convertible to match the 92. I think he got it out of is system now, he sold them all and went import.

Re: INTERESTING 82 Z28 ON CRAIGSLIST
Back in the day I took a test drive of an 84 anniversary edition the local dealer had. Fun, but not as much as I enjoyed my IROC. Now that I'm older, every now and then I see an 80's GT for sale that I'd maybe buy. I still prefer the other "dark side". Love the old fwd turbo Dodges. Especially when they have Shelby on them

Re: INTERESTING 82 Z28 ON CRAIGSLIST
This showroom stock wars of the eighties were THE place to test and evaluate potential upgrades to production cars. The red car was a well publicized piece in the day. I remember the Performance Plus segment shown. While not up to today’s standards, by far, the cars of the early 80’s paved the way for the incredible pieces available today. Those races had all the best equipment being put to the ultimate tests, by factory hot shoes and privateers alike. There is a direct link from this car to others, like the Players and Escort series cars, and the 1LE cars. If legitimate, this particular car is a significant part of early 3rd gen racing history, and the establishment of the 3rd gen as the standout GT of the period.

Re: INTERESTING 82 Z28 ON CRAIGSLIST
The car in question, I would really like some documentation to back up the claims. It almost reminds me of a car that has a rollcage, and then someone slapped some stickers on it...
Call me skeptical.
Yes I now own a Mustang shoot me.
