These fit perfectly under the bumper beam (on my 86 Trans Am anyway):
It is basically a longer (18") version of the same thing Holley is selling under their Mr. Gasket brand. But they want more for the 12" version:

So far I don't have any complaints. I haven't checked trans fluid temps but I can't imagine it's any worse than the pitiful single pass tube running through the radiator tank. Mostly I wanted a clean solution for when I go to an all aluminium radiator. Also hated the stock fittings for the hard lines into the plastic radiator tank.

Re: Amazon extruded aluminium finned trans cooler install
I have a very similar style cooler installed in the exact same spot. Fits perfectly without impacting airflow to the oil cooler and radiator. The only difference in my install is that I did not cut the tranny lines. I used an adapter to connect the hose.

I wanted to keep the majority of the hard line routing as it is slimmer and cleaner and my oil pan hangers are still in good shape, etc. I also figured that I could use the other end of the hard lines to create adaptors should I elect to run though the radiator cooler in addition to the external cooler.
Have you checked temp before/after? My plan is to stick a temp probe in the pressure test port on the trans. My race trans doesnt like hot fluid. It was slipping in reverse last summer when hot.
