Hey guys, I purchased a rebuilt late model 700r4 from Monster Transmissions in 2013, the trans probably less than 15,000 miles on it and was only driven behind the stock 305TPI. I set the tv cable correctly and have had zero issues with it except for it occasionally hanging onto 3rd gear for too long during a wide open throttle pull.
When I pulled the trans pan off I noticed a pretty large amount of material stuck on the magnet as well as a metal film on the filter itself. I understand that since it was a rebuilt trans, some wear in material is normal but does this look like a bit too much? Should I just do a full rebuild kit instead of the less invasive kit that I linked above? hoping to get the car running and driving before summer and a full rebuild is definitely gonna set me back. thanks

Once the transmission is torn down, you can look at the planetaries to see if one or more of the pinions are work out (excessive play or wobble). This is what the excessive metal on the magnet might be coming from. Once it is torn down, then you can determine what is needed exactly. You probably already have the sunshell and Corvette servo and maybe the boost valves, and would not need these. You can buy just what you need, and save money.

Thanks for the info, not sure what monster puts in their entry level 700r4, I’ve never tore down a transmission before so I wouldn’t know what to look for. I was gonna drop it off at my engine builder and have him do the work but if this kit isn’t too involved and I feel confident after watching the dvd I may attempt it myself
