Affordable Accessory Drive Kit

I'm currently swapping a 5.3 truck motor in my '83 and can't seem to find an affordable used f body setup for my car. While searching for parts I stumbled across a Holley accessory drive kit. I was wondering if anyone has put one of these kits in their thirdgen yet. They can be made to work with any spacing (vette, fbody, or truck). If I can re-use all my truck components (balancer pulley, alternator, power steering pump, and A.C. compressor and bracket), the only part I would have to buy would be a fifthgen LS3 waterpump as this matches the beltline of the truck setup. The ad for this kit says the power steering and alternator match the location of the corvette.

I used the search function and found nothing on this. I'm new to posting but I've learned everything I need to know on this forum.

dirty dingo makes a great setup that uses the truck pump and crank pully and you can use your stock ac and power steering pumps and a truck alt that way you dont have to fab up any lines ect it high mounts everything so there is no k member mods and is a good setup I havent put one in a third gen but have in a 87 montecarlo and it fits perfect

Re: Affordable Accessory Drive Kit

The Holley stuff forces you to use a Vette PS pump almost and you have to buy other stuff to make it all work, pluse you HAVE to run an AC compressor to make it all work.

The Vette setup is almost cheaper, I have the Holley stuff because I want to use my R4 compressor and seemed like the logical choice, but I havent biought a PS pump yet though

so if I run this setup, I would need an ls1 fbody waterpump with a spacer kit, correct? And rather than getting a dirty dingo ac bracket, I'll just run the truck ac bracket and compressor. I have a tubular k member so it should fit down there fine.

Re: Affordable Accessory Drive Kit

I am running the Holley Bracket for the pass side (R4Compressor) . After buying the braket and the adaptor kit I also had to purchase the corvette tentioner and another pulley. So in total I spent Approx. $300.00 just to retain the R4. Read the booklets for them 1st. Kinda like "some assembly required". More Money Required. I started with all F-Body brakets.

Re: Affordable Accessory Drive Kit

I made my own, wasnt hard at all. Northstar PS pump, S10 alt, Corvette idler

Used plastic panels to mock up the rough location

Next, grab a chunk of old belt and measure the edge against the pulley to a mount on each accy using a caliper. The difference is how much each accy must be shimmed from the most forward part

Now cut two sheets of metal the same shape as your mock-up plates, add shims cut previously and shim to match the crank pulley

I used scrap 1/2" alum and misc scraps laying around at work. Total cost including a new-take-off WP was $165. Benefits are replacement accy's are extremely cheap vs the LSx counterparts and common in JYs if you're not afraid of used parts (Im not)

Down sides are custom lines and custom belt required. Both are required for non-stock applications discussed earlier, so this is a moot point

Re: Affordable Accessory Drive Kit

For the cheap route, I used the truck stuff and moved the alt to the passenger side. Wasnt hard at all and has been working good for over a year. Check my thread " Pullin the trigger" Ive just started a swap on a first gen s10 and hope to figure out an affordable acc drive for it too..

I'm probably going to buy a dirty dingo bracket, but I'm definitely going to modify my truck water pump like you've done and save some bucks. I have access to some big drill bits and taps at work so it should be easy. If I'm sneaky I can even get paid while I do the work. lol

Re: Affordable Accessory Drive Kit

As far as which bracket to get from Holley, their website says this:

Long belt alignment is common for trucks and 2010+ camaros
Middle belt alignment is common on f-body and gto
Short alignment is common corvette, cts-v, G8

I haven't researched yet which A/C pump is best (sanden SD508 or sanden SD7 or R4)

Re: Affordable Accessory Drive Kit

I am trying to make this holley kit work with my 86 iroc and I can tell you now it is a no go. The power steering pump pulley will not clear the steering box so I am stuck on what to do now.

Re: Affordable Accessory Drive Kit

Ok so the problem with my engine was the motor mount brackets I purchased did not have the engine sitting back far enough. Once we got that issue resolved everything cleared and I am 100% happy with the Holley accessories kit.

Did you use the hooker brand engine mounts that Holley sells? Thanks in advance.

What I ended up doing was running the car with the truck intake and accessories. The car was in full m ull et mode with no hood, as it wouldn't fit. I had always planned to have some form of boost at some point. I decided to go with an Indiana muscle car system which comes with all the brackets for the accessories. Spendy, because I had to use a Corvette alternator and a Corvette power steering pump. I'm really happy with how it ended up though as it makes 600whp on pump gas with 11 pounds of boost.
