Hi guys.. I Just bought an 89 Camaro Convertible. brought the car in for a front end alignment and all was good after. Wanted to balance the tires and brought the car to America's Tire Co. (Which I'm liking less and less these days.) The first thing he said was that my tires were 13 years old and they wouldn't be able to balance anything older than ten (Which I thought was absolute b.s. but whatever)..then he told me that he couldn't do anything anyhow because my rims weren't meant for the car and that they had spacers...

I believe that the wheels aren't stock, but do you guys think this guy is fos on anything he said?

I know that tires DO have a shelf life. 10 years sounds about right. You could put 'em on a shelf brand new, and 10 years later you wouldn't want to use them. ...and they're all date coded, so he most definitely can tell how old the tires are. What HE is allowed to do, shop rules, DOT rules etc. etc. I don't know. Same goes for wheels and spacers. Lots of us running aftermarket wheels. Lots of us run spacers. Obviously they can be balanced.

LOL, you can SEE the weights from being previously balanced in the first pic. ....again, I don't know the shop rules or DOT rules, but obviously you can balance them

hehe..ya I just need to find a place that will do them....maybe a mom and pop shop?

Take the wheels off the car and bring them to an old school shop.

After 6 years of age, I wouldn't trust those tires. They start to deteriorate from the inside and could blow just from age regardless of tread looking like new.

A good shocking read about the DOT and NHTSA regarding 6 year tire life.
