Vehicle Build Plate
Hi - Do 1989 3rd Gen cars have a metal build plate riveted to the body?
If yes, where would I find it?
I am looking to buy a Trans Am and to import it (to Australia), I need to supply a photo of the build plate...
Thanks for your help
Derek

Re: Vehicle Build Plate
Center console most years, then to the lockable storage bin in trunk on later cars.

Re: Vehicle Build Plate
I am thinking that most cars have a plate located under the hood (on the firewall or similar) which says when it was built / basic options fitted. Is there such a thing on third gen cars? Would anyone be able to send me a photo of it?
Thanks,
Derek

Re: Vehicle Build Plate
Derek,
Above, your question was answered. It's the SPI label.
Not a body plate like earlier f bodies got.

Re: Vehicle Build Plate
What would you call the compartment in the center console, if not a glove box?
As I already alluded to, an 89 wouldn't have a plate, only a Service Parts Identification decal. From 82 until about 84 the plate looks just like the drawing posted above, and it'd be riveted to the radiator support, right out in the open.

Ditka is prob. meaning the data plate on the radiator support.
Thanks to member Darlee for the pic!
S/he posts the car is a 85 and has the plate.
I wonder when GM stopped using them exactly?
Maybe a factory freak/Friday car.................
