I replaced the rear speakers(in the sail panels) in my 83 Z28 a couple of years ago. I am now getting almost no sound from the right-side speakers. I had a look at the rear speakers to find that they are Delco 4 ohm speakers. Is this correct? I thought factory Delco radios were paired with 8 ohm speakers?
If the radio is original could also be failing radio. Learned that from John in RI here on the forum. My radio started doing that, in '84 Z28. AM/FM ERS with digital clock.
Yes, my original radio radio failed a couple of years ago. Loud motorboat sound from rear speakers. Parts no longer available to repair, but there's a guy on this board that has parts and can fix them. I found a replacement on eBay.
Thank you for your responses. I had the radio checked and it is functioning properly. I have the original front speakers (8 ohms) and two rears from an original 3rd Camaro which are 4 ohms. Everything is working nicely now. I thought that all four speakers should have the same impedance. Thanks again.
Learn something new everyday. I 'think' my A-bodies may still have 10 ohm speakers with the late ETR units. I did not realize GM started the mixed ohm speakers with the early ETR head units. I thought it was a more recent development, sans Bose and Monsoon.
I actually took pictures of the rear deck speakers (too hard to see, fused back that I would like to keep using for a while) in multiple of the last LeSabres (little double DIN project) because I couldn't believe the cars really came with 4 ohm in the front and 8 ohm in the rear.
They hold up well in my location (high desert), but I wouldn't advise looking for any cheap. The HU is impressive, but $50 pairs of speakers blow the OEMs away.
Thanks for your reply. I have found a local shop that is going to repair/replace the foam around the cones and test the speakers. If this goes well...then I'll reinstall the original speakers. I am happy to keep it all original, I do not want/need a high sound system in this car. Thank you, Gary.
