How many made (1990 iroc-z t-top black w/ blue stripe)
History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
How many made (1990 iroc-z t-top black w/ blue stripe)
Read somewhere (an iroc-z site) that the black w/ blue stripe was supposedly rare for this year (1990). Well I own one, and im curious as to what the actually production numbers were.
I know that less than '4,250something' were made. But that's only through logical deduction cause I reads the production numbers for the 1990 Iroc-Z coupes (hardtops, t-tops) and so that's a no brainer. Anyone got the answer?
He's referring to a black IROC with the blue and black gfx stripe. Can't say how rare it is, but since the majority of the black cars in the reader's rides section has the blue stripe, I'm thinking common, not rare.

Does anyone know if red and blue were the only striping color options for Black IROC's in 1990? Mine had been repainted by the original owner when I bought it, and didn't have any of the IROC decals or striping. I have the original window sticker, and it does list the striping option, but it doesn't say what color. I have also seen black/red stripe 1990's. Is there any way to find out? (based on previous responses in this thread, I'm thinking not...) I'd appreciate if anyone could help. Thanks!
-Jerry.
Check your RPO label in the console. Stripe codes are two numbers followed by an "A". Also what color is your interior?
This usually denotes stripe color.
I have no RPO sticker in the console, RPO stickers were put in different locations on convertibles and I have yet to locate mine (if it's even still there!). Likely places were inside the rear interior panels, but it's not on those either. Exterior is Black, interior is gray leather. I suspect that it probably had blue stripes with a silver "IROC-Z" on the doors?
You suspect correctly. The gray and black interior cars came with the blue striping and silver IROC door decals, code 81A.
The cars with red interior had the red striping and red IROC door decals, code 89A.

I have a 1989 black Iroc with blue & black stripes. It's identical to post 8 above, except I don't have to have a plate up front. Stock Camaro grille. I'll post a pic when I get back to my computer at home.
Re: How many made (1990 iroc-z t-top black w/ blue stripe)
I love the blue on black too. I agree that there ARE a lot of em here on TGO, but out and about, I don't see many at all. Even back in the day, most of the ones I saw had silver.
Regardless, love the blue. ...and while not factory, I ALSO saw a blue/silver stripe on white. Very nice.
Re: How many made (1990 iroc-z t-top black w/ blue stripe)
I got obsessed over Irocs when they debuted in '85. Turned up a hella notch in '88 with the wheel change. Also, the Iroc decal moved to the rear of the door didn't take long to adjust to. The gray color was THE color for me until I saw a black with blue stripe. That color combo leaped over gray. Tried in '88 to buy one new & couldn't afford the insurance. Major bummed about that. Never lost my desire for an '88-'89 Iroc. Do not like the airbag wheel & yellow gauges that adorn the '90. https://imgur.com/eP7lFEv That's the wheel. As with any car a few years out of production, they slowly disappear. Snagged mine because I got tired of never having bought one. Also have a 2002 Trans Am ws6 & Firehawk https://imgur.com/zLgN72M & https://imgur.com/14vzsaP

Car ran like it was starving for fuel. Would not go more than 10 mph. Loading up bad, but no response. Plugged in an OBD2 reader & nothing, it came back clean. HMMM. Old school time. Got a good fuel pump, with flow. Fuel filter not clogged. Line ahead of filter has fuel. Gas tank remarkably clean for a 28 year old car. Checked it with a bore camera. Fuel test shows 10% ethanol. Got pressure at the fuel rails. Next step, pull an injector & it's corroded to the point of being completely blocked. Follow that with 7 more & all 8 are the same. I'll try to post a pic or 2 of the carnage. Ordered new injectors this morning & they will be 2 to 3 days getting here. Get everything buttoned back up & hopefully make a hot lap to the gas station to fill the tank with rec fuel, non ethanol. Oh wait, I still have to get it registered first. I was in the process of doing that when the car fell flat on it's face. The temp tag just expired 7 minutes ago. Back to the DMV for more fun.

John, looks pretty common/popular - thanks for sharing the data
Re: How many made (1990 iroc-z t-top black w/ blue stripe)
Replaced all of the 28 year old fuel injectors due to corrosion. Took it down the street to test throttle response, runs strong again, & noticed I have a broken trans mount. I'll get that replaced tomorrow or Tuesday. Was able to get on it once.
Re: How many made (1990 iroc-z t-top black w/ blue stripe)
I have a Black 1990 IROC-Z Convertible with the black/blue stripe. From everything I've read, only about 5,000 IROC-Zs were built for the 1990 year. Production started in Oct 1989 but since they lost the rights (licensing) to call them IROC-Zs on 1 Jan 1990... they were only able to produce one quarter. I thought there were about 2,000 convertibles but I am not sure on that number. If someone has better information, please forward. Additionally, I have seen them with the black stripe on the bottom/blue stripe on top and the reverse. Not sure what the original scheme was???

Nice! I know that the blue stripe was triggered whenever a black or gun metal grey car was ordered with black cloth interior. Obviously the red stripe was triggered whenever a white, black or burgundy car was ordered with a red interior. My bright red on red leather B2L car came with the silver stripes. Does anyone know how the yellow stripe was triggered? There is a member here with a white LB9 G92 with grey leather that came with the yellow stripe. Funny enough, I have only seen the yellow stripe on a white car.

Beautiful! I had the same car 10 years ago. I miss looking at it but not driving it. Convertibles feel like a totally different car than a slick top.

According to the 1990 Camaro order guide, the White cars with the Gray decals was the only way to get the Silver/Yellow stripe.
Re: How many made (1990 iroc-z t-top black w/ blue stripe)
nice ride. i too, have a black 1990 vert. I just got my invoice from GM Herritage center showing options etc, including grey leather interior, preffered equipment group 3, and 5 speed manual. My car was also built with the blue stripe. the stripe would be below the black stripe with a silver Irocz. From what i have learned from reading a post from NastyZ28, is the 1294 iroc convertibles were made. Production started in August of 89 and ended 12/31/89. Would love to know how many were made in black with grey leather and a stick. Maybe someone here knows the answer?
