Engine Endoscope 305 TPI need experts
Hello guys
Judging by those pics taken with endoscope in the spark plug holes what do you think?
The story of this engine is unknown.
My car is an 87 and the block is an 89
Only smoke at startup (valve seals) and seems healthy
I see some scuffs there
My car has 120k miles. Pistons seem so clean and heads too

Looks normal. Change the stem seals and flog it.
Endoscope is a useful device but don't read too much into what you are seeing. Things like minor vertical score marks are going to exist in a large percentage of cylinders with decent mileage. They don't represent a significant percentage of ring sealing circumference so they generally aren't a problem.

Sounds very good!
Thank you!
So is this engine already redone?
Looks so clean inside and has all the crosshatch on the cylinders

My 88GTA has 193k on it and I owned it since new. It still has the crosshatch in the cylinders....take that for whats it worth. Castol GTX Motor Oil every 5k easy highway miles.

Re: Engine Endoscope 305 TPI need experts
I've torn down engines with 470k and there's still visible cross hatch. Modern oils and fuel injection that doesn't wash down the oil on cold start. It's not unusual - in fact these days it's VERY unusual to see a clapped out cylinder wall. Engines die from oil starvation or sludging. And even in the cases where there's a hole in the side of the block from oil starvation the cylinder walls are usually fine.
