Location of Casting Number on Engine
So I know there have been other threads on this and I have read many of them. I have spent hours researching and looking trying to find it. I have a 1990 Camaro RS with T-Tops. According to the vin it originally came with a 305, Ive been working with my car on the fact that it was a 350( I can't remember where I saw or heard it was), anyway I've been trying to just look at the engine and find out. Here's a picture(found online) of the engine. Where it is circled is where I have come to believe that the number should be, I have dug around the best I can to try to find it but there are a lot of things in the way. Originally I found the numbers 14102182, but came to learn it is a vin of something else. If anyone can help that would be great, pictures at various stages would be even better, Thanks for your time

Right in front of the transmission bellhousing, you'll see the block casting number. If you pull the valve covers, the head casting numbers are visible. Behind the AC compressor there should be a small flat pad in front of the passenger's side head with a partial VIN number and a suffix code that will tell you what the engine was in originally. Google "mortec sbc casting number", click the first result and start studying. There are multiple photos on that page showing what to look for.

Every 305 is called a 350 at some point. A lot of people don't know any better, and don't really care.
