84 Camaro H.O cold starting problem.

I have a 84 Camaro Z28 H.O with a carburetor and manual fuel pump, the problem I'm having is when starting cold in the morning I have to pump the heck out of the gas to get it to start. Im talking 3-4 attempts at starting the car and pumping the gas over and over. After the car finally starts , it will then start up all day long, every time as soon as I hit the key.

Do you think this is a carburetor or a fuel pump issue?

If choke is working and you are setting it correctly before starting, the fuel may be leaking out of the bowls. You may need disassemble and epoxy.

You can see where mine was done on previous rebuild.

I'm definitely leaning towards yanking the carb and rebuilding it. It runs great once it finally starts. I should just have to hit gas once to set the choke right?

There is this clicking noise under the hood when I turn key on. Ive not found where that is coming from. It only clicks when you turn key on not when its running.

clicking sound is a mixture control solenoid tapping away. its basically a needle jumping up and down metering fuel flow.

I would take the air cleaner off and operate the throttle linkage by hand, all the way back and release. The choke plate should close. If it does, I would hold the choke plate open with one hand and repeat while watching inside the primary to see if you see fuel squirting (I think you can see it in Rochester's, someone chime in if you can't - I know Holley is evident). If you don't see the fuel squirt, the bowls are probably dry, and the fuel leaked out.

Or the accelerator pump cup has shrunk and is not pumping.
