Junkyard F-bodies So-Cal
SO this thread is for when one finds an F-body in the junkyard. Pics or a good description is best and of course location. I spend a lot of my time scouring salvage yard inventories around the country but my home base is Central Texas so I will start here hopefully adding to other regions as I find cars.
1987 RS Camaro LKQ Wilmington, Ca - How rare were these? I know they were California only but this is the first I'd seen one. When it said 1987 Camaro and i saw the RS, I thought maybe someone had put on 1989-90 parts.

What a shame seeing this go to the wrecker. But at least it's donor parts will keep another one on the road.
For 1987 the RS came only in White, Red, and Black and a 6 cylinder only as well. Think of it as a "diet Z28". All the ground effects, wheels, suspension, minus the 8 cylinder.

It's been 2 months since it was put in the yard. Its safe to say probably not much left. You can go on LKQ's website and check inventory. I check often to get to cars first here in Cali.

that Berlinetta's interior was trashed when I got there.
I did get 1 working window switch, an air vent and replacement rear window bolts. I also picked up the AC control module for a buddy.
I paid more than I expected for the control unit.
They even charged me $0.55 for each bolt

Go in cargo pants. What fits in the pockets is free
Lkq is getting super picky with prices over the last couple years. Just saying screws and bolts and small things go in my pocket. It's my 3 dollar entry fee items.

Well before ebay and craigslist yea. Now to me it seems that vendors come and strip the cars before the average person who needs a part can get to it. Hey, more power to them to make an extra buck and save us the trouble of taking things apart and getting dirty.
But there is something very therapeutic about bringing your tool box and be on the hunt for that one specific part.

I'm hoping this find works for my buddies Berlinetta. He doesn't drive it much since the fan and AC doesn't work.

Five finger discount!
I used to take a big hoodie everytime, the biggest piece i ever snuck out was the seat cover for my S10.Socks are another place to hide things too.

Re: Junkyard F-bodies So-Cal
Up next is our new line of Pick-a-part pants. Guaranteed to hold up to 20 pounds of parts with minimal suspicion.
I remember in the bay area a pick a part yard ran a deal for $50 you could take any thing you wanted as long as you carried it for 10 yards. We used to make a pile and have our friends load parts on us and we would stagger the 10 yards. Seat belts make for great carrying straps.
