Harmonic Balancer...whats your choice?

Is there any advantage to switching to an aftermarket unit? Some of them look really good, but what do i know.
For a street application, is there a decent advantage? Like headers over manifolds or whatever.

Re: Harmonic Balancer...whats your choice?

All depends on your final combo and intended use. For most mild street applications a stock balancer is fine. For any serious heads and cam set-up it is strongly recommended that you go aftermarket to account for the more aggressive torsional loads you are putting on the crank. At that point the rubber portion of the stock unit will not match the new harmonics of the engine. ATI gets my vote but others speak highly of fluidyne, and powerbond.

Re: Harmonic Balancer...whats your choice?

I went with one of the summit brand under drive pulleys when i did my engine rebuild last year and for the price its a good one. Ive put about 10000 miles on it so far with 0 issues. My main reason for getting one was for my heads and cam.

Re: Harmonic Balancer...whats your choice?

Stock truck balancer, 11psi supercharger, custom cam and ported heads on stock truck intake. 650-700hp at the crank with no issues. I dont spin above 6000-6500 tho.

I'm a big fan of innovators west, quality is amazing and they are rebuildable. I can't run anything but a stock balancer with my supercharger pulley setup so I'm limited. But if I had to go aftermarket I would do innovators west as they are like a work of art and loved the one on my 521 BBF.

Re: Harmonic Balancer...whats your choice?

THose are both cheap chinese units and prob made by the same company. I have run the professional products powerforce on SBC and they were "eh" ok. They are like stock replacements honestly. The "pro" ones look slightly different but I wouldnt run them honestly at $200 each.

Re: Harmonic Balancer...whats your choice?

I went with the SLP underdrive because it's still a balancer. I haven't had any issues. Some of the cheap underdrive pullies are just that and not a balancer.
