Brand New In The Box HO Aircleaner. Get Your Wallet Out!

Re: Brand New In The Box HO Aircleaner. Get Your Wallet Out!
Wow, no tubes or the plastic intake ends for that price?? Sorry, but the last 3 l69 cars I've found online still had the complete setup. The coolness factor is up there, but not that much... Is it?
Re: Brand New In The Box HO Aircleaner. Get Your Wallet Out!
The box shows a date of March 2002, accompanied by a new style Ac Delco logo.
Could this have been a GM approved re-pop unit from the early 2000's?
I'm not saying it is a GM repro, but just confused as to the seller saying the unit has been sealed in the box for well over 20 years, but shows a modern box with a circa 2002 date on it.
Re: Brand New In The Box HO Aircleaner. Get Your Wallet Out!
The aircleaner was part of the ZZ4 conversion package. So yeah GM still had plenty after 1986. The box label would have been printed when the box was shipped to the dealership. That doesn't really indicate when the part was manufactured. I'd have to look, but I seem to remember the list price in the ~2000 era was around $300. Seemed ridiculously overpriced at the time. But then I picked up three or four of them between 1996-2000. I picked one up for a buddy of mine, had some light surface rust and was missing the lid with the decal and the ducts. Paid $5 for that one.

Almost bought 10 complete NOS sets of these back in the day, had the ducts, tubing and everything for complete installs. I knew I should of then and I'm semi kicking myself now. Last I heard they were all tossed in the trash.

It's a sweet vintage part. As they say, they don't make stuff like that anymore! But I know he's been trying to sell that for at least one year. I think that is worth $400-$500 in my opinion. What that being said, If I had an 85 L69 iroc and I needed that, I'd try very hard to acquire it!
Re: Brand New In The Box HO Aircleaner. Get Your Wallet Out!
I aquired the one in the original box that was advertised before. I have been watching it, and decided to make an offer, and he accepted. He has quite a lot of NOS parts, some of which I may bid on, obviously he has another. He packaged the NOS part and box, inside another box, inside a wooden crate. I am very pleased with the part as a back up, and his attention to detail in shipping and the transaction. I believe he also may be a member of TGO. He has a very gorgeous third gen.
Re: Brand New In The Box HO Aircleaner. Get Your Wallet Out!
I'm surprised that they still made these in 2002 considering how quickly they discontinued a ton of other parts. I remember trying to buy an original set of floor mats from the dealer (for an '87) in 1995 and it was a big NO. The owner of FRRAX tried to buy a set of manual pedals in 1993 for undoubtedly one of the earliest T-56 swaps ever performed on a 3rd gen and GM had to crank out another batch first. They wanted to stop making them completely but then he ordered them and foiled their plans!
Re: Brand New In The Box HO Aircleaner. Get Your Wallet Out!
83-86 Camaro L69 got the dual. 83-84 Firebird L69 used cowl induction. In 85 the T/A went to the flat vented hood and got the same aircleaner as the Camaro from then on.
Re: Brand New In The Box HO Aircleaner. Get Your Wallet Out!
'85 and later air cleaners had the raised center hole lid, as did the ZZ3 conversion dual snorkel air cleaners. '82 through '84 air cleaners had sunken center hole lids.

So that very first picture of one form the OP...that would be a "raised" center hole, and thus '85 and later?

Correct. That specific lid and air cleaner assembly will be correct for an '85 L69 IROC or TA or '86 Players Challenge car. But lid stamping is also the same as '89 TBI, for example.

SURE..............
Now that you mention it, I've got roughly $625 into assembling NOS of each of the four duct pieces individually. And both duct hoses are left side. And worse yet, I don't even need 'em.
$770 seams reasonable for one stop shopping. But as you imply, no one here can argue with spending less on car parts. $770 is 15% of what I paid for the entire car. $770 will make a purist whine. Good point.
Re: Brand New In The Box HO Aircleaner. Get Your Wallet Out!
She has an amazing collection of nos parts for third gens. Charges a premium but she's very reputable, ships fast, and has some very hard to find parts.
Re: Brand New In The Box HO Aircleaner. Get Your Wallet Out!
Yeah, gt4373, my original '84 ducts do not have the heat shield, nor do another '84 set I have. I don't know if they were on '85s. Maybe something on the ZZ3 setup caused a rub area? Did '85 L69 have the same AIR components as an '85 TPI? Maybe something there.
This one is $100 off the price from the one in the OP.
so earlier someone asked about these having a date of 2002. Kinda wondering the same thing. how could that be, was this more likely the performance part designation rather than the original part for the 83-85's? amazing these would exist as a part over the counter 18 years later. Just curious.
