1982 Recaro Trans Am
We have a 2 owner 1982 recaro trans am, V8 w/crossfire fuel injection, T-tops and buldge hood. Every part of this car is original (sans an alternator). This was my first car as a teen and I kept it with the intention of returning her to her initial glory some day.
I now sadly have to sell the car. I have no idea what to ask for her. Can you make some recommendations? She has sat for years under a covered parking area, rusted areas and not running. Can post pictures, just want an idea of asking price for a restoration project car.
Thank you

Re: 1982 Recaro Trans Am
A car is worth what someone is willing to pay. It all depends on the area. When I sell a car, I think about what I believe it is worth, and add 25-40% onto that for negotiation (if they don't negotiation SCORE!!!). We'd need to see pics, to tell you.
What I tell anyone that wants to sell a car, browse craiglists in YOUR area, and look for a similar car, similar year, and post it around the same price (if that is a price you can live with).

Re: 1982 Recaro Trans Am
I looked on E-bay and hemmings, and could not find an 82 "recaro" that was in original condition, hence why I ended up on this forum.
I will get pictures today and post ASAP.
We are located in central Oklahoma.
One guy offered us 2K, but the car could be parted out for significantly more than that, just the recaro seats alone are highly sought after. I have experience in restoration and know this is a diamond in the rough, being a survivor. The car has a huge amount of sentimental value to me, but I don't have a choice and have to part with it.
I hope that who ever purchases it will restore it and I would love to be able to keep in touch and see how she turns out. Can I make that part of the purchase agreement? If I win the lottery some day I will buy her back!!!

Sorry for delay on pictures, storm come through. Plan to take pictures Monday when it dries out. Was able to confirm we still have the original hub caps (4), spare tire etc. Every original part is still with the car!

Re: 1982 Recaro Trans Am
The car is rough. All the parts that make it a Recaro are there, but that is a 20,000 dollar resto, easy. I restored mine, and mine was not in nearly as bad shape as that car. Mine had sentimental value, and I would never have thrown the amount of money into the car that I did, if it did not have that value. I more then exceeded the worth of the car. That is the problem you will have trying to convince someone it is worth more then just a parts car. I would grab it just for all the Recaro specific parts that are there. IMHO, you probably won't get more then the offer you already had.

Re: 1982 Recaro Trans Am
The individual that offered 2K did not have a place to store the car as he thought he did. Car needs to go ASAP. I told the person scheduled to take it July 10 I would take $1500. Wish I could keep her myself, but my 3 car garage is full of all of dads things, I too have no room for her. So sad to see my first car go, but I have no choice.

Re: 1982 Recaro Trans Am
Dave,
Geez, Debbie downer much?? The guys/gals at Corvette forum are much more"encouraging".
It was the service man from Oklahoma. Obviously once cash is in hand, he can do with it what he wants, but seems like a very honest guy and really appreciated the car for what she is. Hopefully he will keep his word to let me see the car as he restores her.
He looked the car over very carefully and said it is in much better condition than many he has restored. The frame, engine compartment and body are solid and straight. There was only superficial rust.
He and a buddy will do all the work, including paint/body work, which will save them a lot of money as they won't have to pay out to have the work done. They plan to upgrade the cam and exhaust but keep everything external original.
The car had a huge amount of sentimental value to me, attached to lots of memories, she has been in the family since I was 15. I really was not happy to have to part with her, but as stated above, blah, blah, blah.
So, I went to bed with a happy heart that someone will "do her right" and restore her to her original condition. If that's not the case, I'd rather not have that fact pointed out as a HAHA jab, just let me live in my naive happy place.
