Worth it for 4k? 89 TTA 104k runs and drives
Found a 89TTA runs and drives needs complete interior restoration a front driver fender it has a bad dent, needs taillights all falling apart, wrap around wing needs replacement, wants 4k clean title. Supposedly it was owned by a friend of Steve jobs which I could careless the owner believes that gives it a high value which I doubt it.
Just want to know if I should acquire it to resell it for a bit higher...

Nope. Not worth it. Please forward that scoundrel's name and number so I can give them a piece of my mind.
J/K. Totally worth it.

Save that TTA! It just kills me to see how some of these rarer thirdgens have been cared for by some of their owners.

Exactly what I say how is the value going to be high if the previous owner did that damage I would rather go beat his ads for letting this happen lol... I supposed to pick it up the 16th cause I just had my son so I'm not able to go but I'm hoping no one picks it up the people said they would hold it, I hope so. I have too many 3rd gens already but I would love this 89 tta

Guarantee you that value will only continue to rise. I think a good investment. Had a chance to buy one cheap 20 years ago and I still regret not being able to do it.

Scott Tiemann would need to restore that car to have the same value of the others and you will definitely be upside down at that point!

There are so many good ones out there - one that has a history of high miles and being roached out won't climb like the rest of them.

Six figures is a bit of a stretch unless you literally dropped it off at a restoration place and said "let me know when it's done." For someone who wants to do a bit of the work themselves, this will be a GREAT project. It's not for everyone, but when this car is back up to snuff the owner will have a great relationship with it. He'll know it inside and out.. like most of us do with our cars at this stage.

Most of us would try to do as much of our own work as possible. Still would be tens of thousands.

Still worth the price they are asking. One of what 1550? some odd cars. I wouldn't in a million years have thought late 70s Trans Ams would go 80k at auction. I saw it happen. Now I know these Turbo cars will never reach the "Bandit" popularity but I think they will continue to creep up in price. Aside from the Turbo engine which I know nothing about.. I could get this car going and back looking good and still be in under 20k I would imagine.

It
would definitely make for a nice driver. I saw one on San Francisco bay area Craigslist with 700 or so miles for 42k last night.

Although I would never suggest to part out a TTA, that car has 4k worth of parts. Engine appears to be stock, judging from that the original airbox is still on there. It will cost a lot to restore it, but once you have one, you have one.

A friend of Steve Jobs, huh? That should make it worth a lot more!
I used to own a '69 Z28 that belonged to Sergei "Serge" Malatov, of The Wire. The actor's name is Chris Ashworth. He sold the car to me so he could have money to go to NY to audition for a movie. He didn't get that spot, but it looks like he's made it in other areas. BTW, I got nothing more for that car when I sold it, than any other '69 Z28 in that condition would have gotten.

A friend of Steve Jobs... wow... that's really reaching. Lots of people know someone famous. I've had multiple celebs in my cars, I should start making a list for when I sell them.

It does, my eyes may be tricking me. Kinda looks like he has two sets of front wheels lol. I picked up another complete set of gold lace wheels so I can run the front's on all 4 coroner's.

If you're trying to make a mint condition show car this isn't the one. But for $4k you could get this and clean it up to be much better than it is and you can drive the pants off of it and do whatever you want to it mods wise and not have to worry about keeping it low mileage and all original and garage queen status. I think this could be decent if you got it for $3500 and spent about $5-$6k on parts and repairs if you do most of the work yourself.

Re: Worth it for 4k? 89 TTA 104k runs and drives
Hey everyone...so I'm still learning about the third gens...so question...I feel that 4K for this car is fair...but is it a fair statement to say that overall the IROCS are slightly worth more...for example putting a 87 GTA 350 against an iroc 87 350 with 20K miles just for am example? I really like the GTAs...but when I google search on YouTube and other places it just seems like there's more appreciation for the irocs...seems I read more how they will appreciate value better than the GTAs. I'm having a hard time finding a good guide on the values of the GTAs...I feel like there kinda all over the place...unlike the irocs. Sorry for the kinda off topic question.

TTA's will always be worth a lot more than a regular IROC though. I'm not sure there's any third gen Camaro that is worth the same as a TTA or Firehawk.

Re: Worth it for 4k? 89 TTA 104k runs and drives
It's been generally true for every generation that the Chevy's are worth more than the Pontiac's. Locally I can pick up a rough GTA for under $2k, but IROC's are usually at least $3k for the most trashed example. Nice low mile ones are creeping up to the $20k mark (but that's in maple syrup dollars).

Re: Worth it for 4k? 89 TTA 104k runs and drives
Hey thanks for some insight on that...im a younger guy than maybe most on here. Almost 30 ha, but always wanted an IROC, bought one recently for 12500 from gateway classic cars...70k on it all original 2 owners...great shape...probably over paid a lot, but o well...it was the type I was looking for. I really wanted a GTA...but I favor the red 87s with the 305, 5 speed, with no digital dash...seems like that combo is tough to find. Are there any DVD history vids out there on the Trans ams...mainly the 80s era ones that u know of?
So far everything I've learned was from ThirdGen.org. This website has so much valuable information and helpful members, it's probably one of the best automotive forums there is.
