It looks like Cehbra came up with a couple different patterns for firebird owners. A blank one, and one with the grid pattern already in there.
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/car-...vement-3d.html
Plus the Camaro ones with HVAC controls on top, and one where it is on the bottom. Looks like now most thirdgens have a cheaper double din option available now.

If you look at page 1 and the last post he said he was in the process of test fitting, but hasn't posted an update after that. I'm guessing he's still in the test fitting and adjusting phase.

Still working on it. I have the flat section of the main plate printed as well as the angle adjustments for the hvac controls. Between the late hours at work, my 5 month old and sleepless nights in the garage prepping/painting a customers bike, my time for myself has been non existent. But push come to shove, I can bring the model into work and prep it for printing the back section of the plate(because who actually eats on there lunch break). Ill try to get some pic to post later tonight/tomorrow of what I have set so far.

I don't think he has a 3d model of his work. I think he just modified the stock plate. But, I could be wrong. Have been before and will be again.

Re: Double Din Radio Bezel
I had looked at that thread before and he made his own plate. No 3D model of it and it's not for an actual double din radio either. He said it was 6.3" not the 7" I believe.

Re: Double Din Radio Bezel
So, I decided to try and put in a double radio. However, I don't feel like paying $99 for a bezel that's plain. Thought about modding my own, but then I remembered that a member here veaceonee, designed one for 3d printing.
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1353274/#collections
Well, that's awesome, but I don't have a 3d printer. So, I had to find an online service where I can have someone print it, and ship it to me.
So, then I went to:
https://www.3dhubs.com/service/87790
Found that guy, under $20 for him to print and ship to me, and made in ABS plastic.
Great service, and it was completed next day, sent pics right away, but I haven't received it yet. If it turns out well, I'll have a double din bezel for under $20. It does appear that the gap between the thermostat controls and the radio is a little thin, but if it doesn't work I can revise it and do it again.
So far, I like the look of the texture, not stock but also not looking like someone just took a plain sheet of plastic and threw it on there. Once I receive it, I'll let everyone know fitment. So far, this guy Matt has been pretty good to deal with, updated me constantly.

Re: Double Din Radio Bezel
So I received it today and installed, and it is a quality made piece. The bezel is 5/8" too long. Otherwise it is a good piece. I ended up just trimming that off. I placed the order on the 18th and received it on the 21st, so I can't complain about that. I'll post pictures later. The printer did his job and did it pretty quickly and impressed with the service I received.
If anyone has 3d editing software, you just need to move the lip 5/8" higher up and then it should be a perfect fit. You can sort of tell by looking at the pictures in the first post.

He mentions that issue here. Post 8.
If I had a firebird floating around I would edit the file. But I have nothing to check to.

I had a set of these made using the same file and the dimensions are off. The bezel won't fit into the console at all. Looks like the entire bezel was lengthened to accommodate the added a half din more opening. Here is a picture next to my stock one. Has anyone else had this made

I stated that after I received it.
This one should work though, might want to PM to double check:

So I thought going to sleep for a hour would be pointless. So I printed out the hvac section. need to take about .050 off the height, but not bad.
On a side note I'm going to be ordering a new radio for the truck. So ill be using that as a tester until I make the new trim for the truck

This is hopefully the final rendering of the plate. The rest of my testing files are ready to be printed. So ill get those going when I get home. The motorcycle should be done Either this Sunday or next depending on how the parts look after a black lacquer. Because you know "they are new parts, they don't have any low spots or dents" Any ways that means I can get back to car stuff.

Jeezzz Do I need to do everything? lol
As of right now, it's up to you. Its easy enough to bend and drill a piece of sheet metal to make a custom bracket. But a secondary brace may need to be made behind the bezel to locate the radio.
My radio will be on order with in a week or so. Once that gets in I will be able to provide more insight.
Stay tuned........

Re: Double Din Radio Bezel
To make the brackets:
I made template out of cardboard
I took the thinnest mild steel I had lying around
I took my angle grinder with a cutting disk ($18 for both at harbor freight, it's a handy tool to have, don't know how I got by without one for so long), cut the steel to the template shape and size
Drilled the holes in appropriate spots
Put in a shop vise (any clamp will do if you have something to clamp it to), hit with the appropriate hammer until it was bent in the appropriate spot and at a 90 degree angle.
It's pretty simple to do and only took 10 minutes to make.

Re: Double Din Radio Bezel
the plate is complete and looks/fits pretty good. I'm going to post the files as a work in progress until the new radio comes in. I'll also include a modification template for the hvac bracket.
Any way, heres the link
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2281726
and a few pics, home office, printer, and finished plate.

Re: Double Din Radio Bezel
I have already sent the new file to the printer and am awaiting them to be finished as I write this. The original file I could open with google sketchup and found that it is off and I'm currently trying to modify the file to fit correctly. The new file with the pattern was wrote with different software and sketchup won't open it so I couldn't verify the size before letting the printer make one
Post your results when you have it, definitely interested to know if it fits!

Re: Double Din Radio Bezel
When I printed mine I used 75% infill, layer height of .12mm (I think will confirm later), and a .8mm nozzle.
Infill is the material inside the part. 100% would be a solid part 0% would be a hollow box. The reason I used a 75% infill was to save on material incase of a bad print or dimensional error. The layer height and thickness was a trial and error to get a "Rough draft" printed in a timely manner.
If having it printed, I would ask for 85-100% infill and .08mm max layer height for a cleaner print. You could go smaller and get a nicer looking part but the price will go up as will the time to make it.

Re: Double Din Radio Bezel
So my radio came in, and it is 1.5mm taller than a standard 2din slot. radio is 101.5x 180. Left to right fits nice but top to bottom does not. So what I'm going to do is attach a second file of this plate with extended clearance for those that have larger than standard radios. But if you have a 100mm x 180mm radio the current file will be fine(unless your printer is over extruding) So I'll be working on some updating and making a new(final) print for myself.

Re: Double Din Radio Bezel
This is what I ordered:
The plate with the oversized opening will be up before the end of the day.
Make sure you measure the radio before you order a bezel.
Although you can always file the bottom edge of the opening down to fit the oversized radios.

Re: Double Din Radio Bezel
Nice radio. I can see why it is a hair larger than the standard double din with the buttons on the side. I was doing some double checking on my measurements a little bit ago. From what I can tell your current reversed double din should work just fine for me. I'm currently trying to find someone to build it in ABS with 100% infil with .08mm max layer height as per your previous post. So I've been shopping around on thingverse of the various print services. One I found only does 25% infil of ABS and suggested I go with PETG for my use.

Re: Double Din Radio Bezel
Just placed my order for the reverse 2 din bezel and the spacers through thingverse and treatstock.com with company called Modern Blacksmith 3D designs. I'm having it made in PETG at the suggestion of them. They said it is stronger than ABS, costs the same and holds up to hot temps better. Cost me just shy of $20. So once I get the items I will post pictures. Thanks again 7thdarkangel for all your hard work in developing this bezel!
EDIT: Printer company contacted me and said they have a 3 day build time and should have it sent out to me by Monday. They are in Texas so I should have it by the middle to end of next week.
