... don't think GM will have an answer for this one. I will say that using the air conditioning system is something we were contemplating for the last decade when it came to cooling the intake charge, and I am so glad someone capitalized on it because you know it is just a matter of time before the aftermarket gets involved, and soon we'll see a few kits for the third gens. Don't know what else to say about the Demon, other than what a freaking awesome piece of machinery.

That seems like a nice package, but General Motors can't really take the credit for that one. Hennessey adds to the existing ZL1 platform by throwing 350/316 horsepower/torque at it as an aftermarket. The SRT group is apart of Chrysler, and it came straight from them. Not taking anything away from Hennessey's Exorcist package, but I'm sure a package for the Demon will be offered by Hennessey as well, as they did with their 1000 horsepower Hennessey Dodge Viper package...

The air conditioning idea has been around for a while. There were at least two companies making such a system for the ZL1 and CTSV. I would take that Demon any day...or the ZL1 for that matter.

I just think it's great to be alive during this 2nd (and most likely last) muscle car era.
It's also sad that they have become so unaffordable for a majority of the people that would like them.

What get's me about this production car is when you pause the video at 3:18 and look at the time slip. I never thought I would see a factory production car that pulls a 1.36 sixty foot lol, not to mention a factory car picking up almost 30-mph from the 1/8 mile to the 1/4 mile. Damn lol...

It's incredibly awsome these days, hp wars are raging. We have 840hp Demons and 707 hp Hellcats and now Trackhawks, 650 hp Vettes, Camaros, CTS-V's, 500+ Mustangs and 600+ Ford GT's. Both GM and Ford will respond. The rumor of the ZR1 is 750+... now that the Demon dropped who knows. Vettes will go mid engine for the 8th gen. Heck we live in a time of 300hp minivans and 400 hp pickup trucks. It's all great!!! Every brand pushes each other to be better.
Also, hard to respect Hennessy.... John stepped on a lot of people, ripped a lot of people off. Theres a lot better tuners out there thats for sure.

When the Nissan GTR was all the rage on youtube a few years back, was trying to tell those fanboys that Domestic Muscle is being held back otherwise they would see how fast we really can be. Lately our guys have been on a tear, it's like the rebirth of the late 60's early 70's but with our generations. I'm loving it too. Once the big three start putting out their V8 muscle machines with turbo's instead of roots blowers from the factory it is game over... and it's coming, no doubt.

I've been laughing at Dodge's claim that the NHRA has "banned" the Demon.
Not even remotely true. Cars running under 10 seconds require installation of a roll cage, and a driver with a Competition License.
Do those two things, and the NHRA is just fine with you running your Demon on their tracks.
But that doesn't sound nearly as dramatic, does it?

Re: Okay, Dodge Wins the Production Power Adder Game...
I think it's a fine point. There may be certain CLASSES at NHRA tracks that the Demon cannot compete in, due to Section 4...
But a claim that a sub 10 second car can't compete in any class at an NHRA track is demonstrably false....unless the NHRA has suddenly decided that Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, and myriad other classes have been summarily eliminated because they're simply too fast...

Re: Okay, Dodge Wins the Production Power Adder Game...
That's not what the NHRA is saying though. Most newer vehicles that are capable of ten and eleven second passes, because of their newer structure, do not need to be caged to run full out and legally. Dodge essentially shattered the record of the newer production car capabilities, but they exceeded the NHRA limit for the 2008 and up chassis'. Of course the Demon "can" be run legally with a cage and a chute, but Dodge isn't about to put either on their production vehicle from the factory, so it is illegal to run "as is" from the factory. We're headed to the track tonight, and I'm sure I will see some ten second GTR's running legally with no cage whatsoever. This is what the NHRA is referring to, they exceeded the limit set forth for production vehicles to run legally withough a cage. Only the older vehicles need to be caged at 11.49, not the newer models. The Demon went a tad too fast...

Re: Okay, Dodge Wins the Production Power Adder Game...
Absolutely agree with you, those speeds are very fast. What a lot of the manufacturers will do on purpose is wait for the NHRA to set the rules, in this case the NHRA lowered the legal ET with no cage for 08' and up models down to no faster than 9.99 with a hardtop, so manufacturers will test their vehicles to run no faster than that, or a solid five tenths slower than that, record the boost level that got them there, then keep that boost level as their factory cap and quoted horsepower, then they will let the NHRA test the vehicle. They will keep de-tuning to get it where it needs to be. Upping the boost would of course run faster than a 9.99, but because it was already approved, and since boost is capped at the factory at a predetermined level, this is how manufacturers get away with it. In the Demon's case though, Dodge, for whatever reason, went all out and just let the NHRA document the times while going ***** to the wall... automatic ban lol.

The demon is just insanity. The horsepower race it just getting crazy. Even in the diesel trucks its crazy. We have trucks coming with nearly 1000 Ft/lbs of torque. We have sports cars running single digits from the factory! What a great time to be alive. Anyone know what a new ZL1 will run with a drag radial/slick? its got to be mid 10's I'd guess.

Two local GTR's....both street driven with AC, full interiors. One went 8.57 at 161 and other just went 7.80 at 176 and has been 180. Thats impressive from 4.1 liters

Haha, I know what you mean. I'm in the same boat myself. I have a hard time putting a grand into my car. Damn kids and stay at home wife! haha Just kidding, wouldn't change that, but it definitely put the "toys funds" on hold for alittle while.

It's awesome that these cars are getting built but at the same time they're getting ridiculously expensive. That demon is limited production which means it'll go for way over 100k and that sucks! Zl1 is 60k + and the corvette starts at 60. It's way more fun having an old thirdgen nobody thinks is fast until you blow someone's doors off lol

Cars are getting very expensive. I believe it is because people don't actually buy cars any more, they just make payments. Many people have literally lost touch with the real value of money.
I could buy any of those cars but I consider it a horrible waste of money. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

The dying gasps of gasoline engines... and they aren't going quietly. A Tesla SUV will give it a run for it's money in a strait line.
I'm glad they're being made, just because gasoline engines are on a timer. Before you know it they'll be a small percentage of new car sales.

Re: Okay, Dodge Wins the Production Power Adder Game...
Though I may agree that gasoline engines are dying, the ICE (internal combustion engine) is alive and well, and will eventually pull away from the electric cars like Tesla. Always remember that in business, manufacturers, as a way to compete fairly with one another, buy a window of opportunity to introduce and sell their product. Electric cars like Tesla have been being perfected for the last one to two decades before being released to the public. Nowadays, the perfection of a hydrogen powered internal combustion engine (not a hydrogen fuel cell), but a regular traditional engine like we use running by way of hydrogen injectors and hardened valve train, not only produces zero emissions, but is way more practical than electric batteries. Have you ever seen a Tesla race against an equally powered gasoline vehicle from a roll on the highway? It would get slaughtered. I myself have seen a few Tesla's pull over in heavy traffic in NYC, not sure why as I didn't get out to ask the driver what happened, but who knows. I for one would feel much safer in a vehicle running on hydrogen, as there are more and more hydrogen pumps hitting the streets in the United States. I would go even further by saying if they ever release, and we know they have it, the technology that converts water into hydrogen through electrolysis in the vehicle, I would say it is game over. I could see the commercials now... "need gas? Just buy a 24 pack of Poland Spring and pour it on in" lol. "Wanna help the environment by producing additional oxygen? Use water" lol. Or probably the next catch phrase, "Got water"...?

So I can finally post these since the car is on it's way back to Michigan and pictures of the car are littered all over the internet.
Governor Cuomo drove it in the parade yesterday morning - these shots were taken down at Battery Park early. The ole Governor is not afraid to mash the loud pedal and did several nice burnouts including about 40' in front of the Javits Center!
Yes that's an air intake in the inboard headlight!

Re: Okay, Dodge Wins the Production Power Adder Game...
Cuomo was not at the reveal party on Tuesday night.
Interesting note, the governor wanted to have a LEGAL New York plate on the car for the parade instead of the Michigan Manufacturer's plate so ownership was temporarily transferred to a local dealer and their plate (and insurance) was used for the parade. The car with the blacked out hood/roof/deck lid is a legal VINed production vehicle and not a test slug, the body colored car I believe is a pre-production unit and does not have a VIN.
A real good friend of mine was working for Dodge last week and had full responsibility/control of the car from Tuesday evening through yesterday. I have several pictures from Friday but can't share them until the heat dies down a bit.

Re: Okay, Dodge Wins the Production Power Adder Game...
This is getting nuts lol. You know what happens, they start going back and forth outdoing one another, then the EPA steps in again and regulates everything before someone kills themselves lol. Damn that Trans Am makes me smile though, somewhere out there the greatest drummer who ever lived, John Bonham from Led Zeppelin, is smiling down on it. John once relayed a story of flying down the street in his new Super Duty 455 TA back in the early 70's, cop pulled him over, and when the cop seen who it was, and what he was driving, John popped the hood and the two of them just stood there staring at the engine smiling and bull crapping with each other. Factory Muscle Car days are back gentleman, embrace it while it lasts...

I think I stand alone with my opinion of this car lol yes is 840hp bad ***, es is 9 second passes bad *** but when you put together the fact that it took 840hp to push this 4000lb pig into the 9's that's when the impressiveness is lost for me. That's just me personally tho. I am ready to see what GM does in response to this tho! I don't really care what Ford does because the only fast **** Ford makes has Shelby attached to it. I would love to see a 1/4 mile race bred Camaro with a big cube all motor monster engine that runs a faster time with less power or hey even more power would be great!!!

I'm not really complaining, don't get me wrong it's awesome. Just sucks 840hp only runs 9's, not that 9's are slow just sucks that it took that much power to do it. Only because it weights 4000+ but still. I wish in my opinion they woulda made the whole chassis lighter, crazy to think how fast that car would be if it weighted 3500 or less! That's all I'm saying. It just kills it for me that it only runs 9's with that power, I know that sounds dumb lol I don't think the third gen is heavy especially in comparison to other fbodys, my 84 fully loaded coupe z28 l69 t5 car weights in at 3250ish. The car is all steel with a cast block and heads and aluminum trans. I'm excited to scale it with the ls1 and t56 combo with all the chromoly suspension in it! The demon is bad *** I just wish it was faster, as weird as that sounds lol

In 2017, with the tech that is in that car and what it is... and a full factory warranty.. that is a bargain!! I mean, I would still LOVE a new Trackhawk when they come out, and I see them being more $$. A CTS-V is an amazing car, but WAY more money. The ZL1 is actually a bargain too.
Again, for what you can buy today. Look at a new Audi R8 V10, absolutely crazy amazing car!!! But look what you have to pay for that.... that's the price of a house.

There were two of these up at Musclepalooza this weekend - one ran down the track and clicked off a 10.40 in the quarter - considering he stomped on the brakes before going through the traps that was a solid 9 second pass!
