I just received my heads from Aerohead Racing and they look great! The fit and finish is excellent.
14022601 casting with new stainless steel 1.94/ 1.50 valves
unshrouded to produced 58cc combustion chambers. Screw in studs, bowls blended, hardened seats, and gasket matched. I had the guide plates.
1985 Z28 LG4 5 SPEED. In addition to the heads, it's getting a 214/224 @ .050 443/465 112 lsa cam new lifters, roller rockers, new push rods, and timing chain. Hopefully, it'll wake the old girl up a bit.
Exhaust system will have wait along with 3:73 gears.
I couldn't be happier with the fit and finish of the Aerohead Racing product. Here's the kicker, they had exactly what I wanted on the shelf ready to ship!
Just resurfaced enough to make flat. Those casting start life as 53cc the installation of 1.94 valves require that the combustion chambers be unshrouded. Aerohead Racing also unshrouded the exhaust valve side of combustion chamber. The chamer work provides for better flow and produces a 58cc combustion chamber. The fit and finish is excellent.
Thanks Joe and I am hoping to have the same experience. I am in a holding pattern until Cometics gets me my .027 head gaskets. I won't know my quench until I get my old heads off, but I am hoping for a cr between 9.5 & 10:1.
Compression guesstimates would be appreciated utilizing the following knows: 1985 LG4 (std bore diameter top-4 relief pistons, 58cc combustion chambers, .027 Cometic head gasket, and the cam is ground on a 112 lsa.
Which head gasket did you choose again?
The reason I ask is because of the valve unshrouding Aerohead did.
Nice looking heads BTW. If you chose a gasket designed for the 305 bore,
then the gasket might be hanging into the combustion chambers. I hope you
chose a gasket for the 350 bore size (4.00"). Did you lay the gasket on the
heads prior to installation to check this?
I'm using WP Torquer 305 heads that have 2.02/1.6 valves installed. They can
get away with this because of the 60/40 shift in the valve locations. I ground
bore notches in the deck surface of the block and used a 4.100" bore MLS gasket.
Here are some pics from my 334 engine:
I see from the picture of your Cometic head gasket, that it has generous
clearance for the bore notches. You should be perfectly fine. Whew.
My gasket is 4.100" perfectly round bore.
I used a 305 spec. 3.8" .027 Cometic head gasket and yes they cleared the 1.94 intake valves. Knock on wood, because it has been trouble free. Dude your 334 is totally filthy!!! I freaking love it!!!
I put that engine together 20 years ago. When I finally had a chance to take it apart a few years ago, it was only then that I found out that the heads had 2.02/1.6 valves. What killed the engine back then was that RHS used these oversized (tall) valve seals that the retainer was hitting at full valve lift. But back then I didn't know as much as I do now, and I figured that RHS is the professionals, so they know more than I do. So I bolted them on as delivered. After a while as the seals hardened, the some lifters collapsed and chewed cam lobes. All that shrapnel circulated round and round the engine, destroying everything.
It took nearly 2 years to resurrect it. Hopefully, I can get it back in the car this summer.
