Christmas Shopping today
Nice and cold weather, so I took out the trans am from hibernation.
Studded tires and dry conditions allows me to do som hill climbing.

Re: Post your firebird pics
^ very cool! Never messed with studded tires but looks convincing ... that first pic looks like a decent incline to go backwards. How's the overall drive in the snow?

Re: Post your firebird pics
I'm used to driving in winter conditions five months a year, so for me there is no stress.I use only the trans am on days with good and dry weather. Never on salted roads. It is as RWD cars most: You need good tires, and you have to drive tactically

Re: Post your firebird pics
finally the tint is gone!
I inherited this car from my stepfather back in November '16. he purchased it in July '16, his plan was to restore it with some light mods, but passed away from cancer before he was able to do anything more than replace a headlight motor and start removing the tint in the back windshield. I finally finished the windshield after about 12 hours with a razor blade and a hair dryer. I'm driving 600 miles this weekend to get replacement seats and getting the door repaired next weekend. hoping to be able to get it out and driving this spring.

Heart wrenching story. Just to let you know, 4th gen seats bolt in too so you can expand your search to seats from '82 - '02 Camaro/Firebird, which gives some neat choices.

Re: Post your firebird pics
"My" 89 GTA. My mom got it for her high school graduation, she paid half, grandpa paid the other. Been her its whole life, garaged 95% of it. Stopped running in around 07' and stayed in the garage for 7 years (Me being about 6 and my little sister only a year old we didn't have time for it) 2014 rolled around and i spiked an interest in cars so i bugged my dad enough to take it out and start looking at what the problem was. We didn't have much time to work on it with other family related issues (A death actually) but in late 2015 we resolved the issue which was the ignition module. 2016 it was officially registered as a historic vehicle, after about 11 years. Im the only one who has a whole lot on interest in the car, as i am the one that does the maintenance, reasearch, as well as LOTS of detailing, hence the reason i put "my" because i am only 15. Over the past 2 years i grew to love 3rd gens.

Re: Post your firebird pics
Some suggestions
- Get a shop manual for the car. It's the best $25 you'll spend at Autozone
- Spray some gumout into your PCV valve and hose or replace both entirely since they're really cheap and easy to replace. There could be a lot of baked on oil residue living in both or could even be causing a block, esp if your car is high mileage or the engine maintenance was half-a$$ed prior to purchase.
- Vacuum lines are the devil - if even one is disconnected your car could idle high or super rough. Look for vacuum hose fittings/nipples that don't have a hose going into them - and if you find this and can't figure out where it goes, either consult your shop manual or plug it by using a short piece of vacuum hose with a pencil eraser in the end to stop the vacuum leak. Check your vacuum lines for cracks and tears too - especially if there's a line for distributor advance since it could mess with timing.
- Get yourself a timing light and adjust the timing to factory spec or advance/retard it according to directions that come with your ignition coil if it's different from stock specs or has instructions that come with it.
- Get a new distributor cap and rotor. If the distributor has points, replace them too. Chances are the brass contacts on all these parts are coated with sooty residue or are even burnt through / deformed. If you're on a budget and the contacts don't look like they're totally shot, just use some fine sandpaper or a nail file with light pressure to get the brass on all the contact surfaces shiny again. Shiny = clean transmission of electricity = stronger spark = happier engine.

Re: Post your firebird pics
^nice! Depending on what you mean by idle problems verify your timing, wires, vacuum leaks, and any codes. The list goes on but somewhere to start. This site has plenty of knowledge and help just research and ask as needed.

Here's mine before and after I took possession of her. The interior is pretty rough from 10+ years of sitting alone in a field but I drive and work on her daily. Runs like a champ.
