February 2017 COTM **WINNER**
Congratulations, ev305TPI! Your bone stock, 11k mile, 1987 IROC-Z is Thirdgen.org's February 2017 the Car of the Month!
LS conversions and forced induction are at the leading edge of performance and those kinds of builds do a great job of demonstrating the performance potential of the Third Gen platform, as well as being visually stunning.
But it is important to remember that what sets Third Gens apart in the first place is their revolutionary design. Not only was the design revolutionary in it's time, but there truly has been nothing like it since.
Therefore, the Third Gen platform is not just worthy of the latest and greatest performance applications - it also deserves to have it's history remembered.
Thank you, ev305tpi.
My car is an 87 IROC-Z with an L98 and 11k original miles on it. I have owned the car for 4.5 years now and have had a tremendous amount of fun with it. It was a dream car for me to buy and I have loved each minute of ownership. I have put a couple thousand miles on it since I got it driving it to cruise nights, car shows, and a fall cruise that I host each year. Of all the cars I have ever owned and currently own, it is among my favorites! The car is an incredible survivor with original gatorback tires, original paint, floor mats, etc. What I do like about it is that it's not a perfect pebble beach show car. There is a small amount of patina on the car if you get real critical... I could make it perfect but I chose to keep it detailed and clean yet be able to enjoy it. Even though the mileage is low, i'm not the type of guy who just leaves it untouched in the garage... it's still a good amount of upkeep and love to keep it just like it is so I can enjoy it with my family.
It's a Norwood car, fully documented, and was an executive car when new, being sold with 3800 miles to it's first owner. It's the most loaded '87 I have ever seen, with over $8k in options new. It has leather, Bose, auto-dimming mirror, factory louvers, etc. It has been alot of fun using it as a reference car to a few friends currently restoring their awesome thirdgens and I plan to keep this car for many years to come.
...at my point in my life, I just truly love getting to use mine for cruise nights and car shows with friends and family. With some hardships going on in my life right now, being able to enjoy this car is something I truly look forward to. I drive it 500 or so miles a year and to me, it's about all I have time for and makes each trip fun and special.
I drive 600+ miles a week for work, so it's not practical to drive one of these as a DD anymore, and I'm quite alright with that.... I still love my car just as much as others who drive theirs more Rest assured, my car still breaks traction often, chirps 2nd, and gives me permagrin

Re: February 2017 COTM **WINNER**
Thank you all so very much! It really means a lot to me, it is truly an honor! All of the other cars nominated this month are absolutely stunning and I hope each also wins in the coming months. And, a big thanks Dave for always doing such an awesome job with COTM!
A few years back, I had a few different cars, and for some reason or another, each was disappointing… they were either always broken, deteriorating faster than I could keep up with, or unreliable enough that I just couldn’t enjoy them. I was about to give up on the car hobby.
A friend of mine got me into the low mile stuff and after a long time of searching for the right car and lots of negotiating, I was able to purchase this one. This car changed it all for me… it has brought me a tremendous amout of enjoyment… I look forward to each drive in it, seeing friends at cruise nights, taking the t-tops off and driving around with my son, etc. This was essentially the exact car that I wanted when I was 16, but had to settle for a different / cheaper ’86 Z back then that never lived up to my expectations. This one is the exact opposite, and while it’s not perfect, it’s incredibly fun and I love it.
In addition, directly because of this car, I have made so many good friends through thirdgen all over the US, and I think that is awesome!! Many of us talk daily about thirdgens over texts and emails... I always look forward to the chats with friends and also learning more about them daily. It’s an awesome community!
Thanks again!!!

Wow that is one smokin' hot IROC. I just love the red interior on a white car, very traditional Chevy in my mind. Congrats.
