Car goes to the body shop Monday!! I'm very nervous. This guy has been in business for over 30 years and doesnt request a deposit. He said I pay when the job is done and it should only take him a few weeks. If this doesnt work out im burning the car to the ground lol.

Man... I want to sue that body shop from turning such an awesome project story into such a tragedy. I HATE hearing things like that. I really wish you got money back from that shop. Maybe you did and you cant disclose it online...but I really hope they didnt just do all that crap and get away scott free.
In any case, the new paint job looks amazing. Even in the pictures it just looks nicer. I really hope you dont give up. I mean, if you get it finished, and you just cant bare to keep the car after all that, no one will fault you there. But at least finish her. Enjoy her for a little. You wont get your money back, but you can at least get some enjoyment out of all that stress.
I also want to thank you for sharing this story... I was toying over painting my car myself. I know it wont be 100% perfect. I know ill be sanding bugs out most likely. But I know I wont have to deal with people like you have. I wont have the ability to control myself that you had. haha. That shop gives them all a bad rap.
Good luck!!
Justin

The body shop that screwed me over is called gulf coast collision and i havent done anything to them or gotten any money back. I work at a parts store and everyone knows about my camaro. The area is really small and everyone whos into cars knows me. Because of this i always get asked how my camaro project is going. That question always leads to the paint story. Unintentionally I have most likely scared away many potential customers from going to the body shop that i did.
Im not going around slandering them but just explaining my experience and that alone has spread throughout the town and there is no way their business will recover from that.
Once the paint job im getting now is finished i will be heading into the service but my mom has plans to get my money back plus money for the damage my camaro received from them.
I was really frustrated at first over the whole situation but its kinda good they didnt finish the job. The body shop that has my car now is a million times better and in relation my car will look a million times better, so there's that....

Re: 1985 Iroc Complete build
Well i have a fun update.
I went to the body shop yesterday to drop off a stud they needed to connect the fender and core support. When i got there i saw a white iroc at their shop. The owner of the iroc was talking to the owner of the body shop. I talked to the iroc owner and before i knew it i was in his car ready to drive a thirdgen for the first time. It was a 1987 iroc convertible with a t5. I'm not the best at driving stick but i went through the gears and had a blast. Then the owner swapped seats with me a showed me what a 305 can do. It was awesome to finally drive a camaro!! Oh yea the car only had 47k original miles and was in amazing condition.
Then the owners son started giving me crap about how high my car sat bc of the new moog springs. He said buy some better springs and come in next sunday and we'll install them together. So last night i order a set of eibach 4.0138 lowering springs!!
I know this is a weird update but i felt the need to share it. It was just such a great day. Oh and today they are spraying the matte black paint on the parts that are black. The grill, louvers, door handles, locks, and antenna.

That's a fantastic change of events, and I am glad to read that your perseverance has kept you on course. Most people could care less about these cars.. but for some of us... these cars are just something special. They look good, can be made to perform very well, and when sorted, are a Blast to drive!
I've been following this thread for sometime, and had similar thoughts/feelings like "Ghettocruiser" posted. Keep posting pictures of the progress, it's not going unnoticed!

Re: 1985 Iroc Complete build
Thanks Giraffe everyone on here has been really supportive and helped me proceed on with this build. All of you guys have had nothing but positive messages for me and thats something you dont see on all forums.
Well here's a picture the owner sent me yesterday. They are starting re-assembly and are straightening out all the body parts still. Obviously the hatch is not lined up but i was the one who put that there haha.
Its not much of an update picture but i analyzed the hell out of it and i can see the side view mirror is on, spoiler, along with quarter panel spoiler pieces, the passenger ground affect, and the first Z28 badge that looks photoshopped on lol.

The areas you showed in filler are classic low spots on thirdgens. Far majority of all thirdgens have them. The people that know about them are the people that use a long board sander, the people who don't know about them are the scuff and squirt or skip-a-step crowd. You're shop probably did a good job with the body!

Well it's been over a year since my last post but I will be starting this project back up. I'm stationed in Georgia now so I will go get my car, in Tampa, come April. I will do the interior over and I have plans for a t56 swap, well if the wife lets me lol.

For the T56 swap look into Hooker's T56 swap crossmember for a thirdgen. While it's the most expensive it's the best aftermarket T56 crossmember short of making your own.
If you can make your own there are lots of options. This is what I made

Sold the car. Wasn't an easy choice but life caught up. I don't feel bad about it bc I sold it to the right person. He already started a new thread for it on here. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/memb...extension.html
He's gonna finish the car up right so I'd highly recommend following his build. He has something important I didn't have, a bank account with more then a 3 figure number in it lol. Should be interesting, thank you everyone for all the support and following this build.

You're kidding!! I followed this build from the beginning, and it's one of the better stories. Sad to see it sold, but glad you were able to get it on the road. Cheers TBRays 👍👍
