Hawk's 90 - 92 Shifter Plate Install - Indicator is off
I installed the Hawk's shifter plate in my 91 Camaro. Visually the piece is almost a dead match to the original. The issue I have is the gear indicator is off and I am unable to get it to match.
For example when I am in OD, the indicator shows as N. If I place the original in, it's dead on. There is a bit of adjustment in how the shifter bolts to the floor, but the available adjustment moves the indicator closer to R than OD.
The cable is dead on at the trans as well, so I do not have an option there either.
Curious if anyone has any experience with this? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

I have put one in and had to adjust it but I don't remember how I did it.

The hole the shifter slides through is adjustable.

How is it adjustable? I called and spoke with Ryan @ Hawks this afternoon. His thought was to swap it out. If it can be adjusted I would rather that option versus sending it back.
Any insight you have would be appreciated!

See how there are teeth on the black and yellow parts. You can move the yellow part (shift indicator) to match the true shift points on the shifter

Re: Hawk's 90 - 92 Shifter Plate Install - Indicator is off
the Hawks is adjustable,BUT..it will go back to showing a gear or so off measure..The fix I had to do(before I sold it),was to put a dime(yes, a 10cent piece) in between the yellow piece(adjustable part) and the gap it slides into...You could just measure the dime and use a piece of plastic(maybe 1/2"..or so...You can get it to be perfect, but the yellow writing on the aftermarket is thin and kinda cheezy, therefore I sold mine and found an original..Now I buy them cheap, and made me a spare, including JB welding the corners from underneath,as they are prone to cracking..I also polish the gear selector windows, and paint them black underneath...these are getting really rare, therefore if it takes you three shifters to make one nice, make it to last....If you need help,be glad to help.

her's an original..see the bold yellow writing...nicer than the aftermarket..not saying you care, but definitely an improvement..as is the moving parts underneath.

Re: Hawk's 90 - 92 Shifter Plate Install - Indicator is off
I have a 91 Firebird automatic and my indicator is misaligned from the gear that its supposed to be. when the car is in Park the indicator is about 1/4 inch above Park, when the car is in reverse the indicator is between park and reverse. neutral the indicator is in reverse etc. what are the steps do I need to take to adjust the indicator to the proper letter on the shifter plate?

its the picture up top. remove your shift **** and shift plate. flip your shift plate upside down and you will notice a black square on the left with a yellow/ white plastic going to it. you can move the yellow/ white plastic up and down inside the plastic ( it has ridges that hold it in place). easiest by placing your shift plate on the console then use the shifter to see if it lines up. then adjust up/ down as necessary.

Re: Hawk's 90 - 92 Shifter Plate Install - Indicator is off
my letter plate actually comes off and then be able to move up to the next highest notch. my letter plate was in notch 2 or 3 so i had to remove it to move it up to that highest notch. and which my indicator is on a slide. which does not adjust it just slides. but its in working condition now again. if it ends up popping back out of the notch for what ever reason i may put a little super glue or possible plastic weld the notch to the letter plate on the arrow. i may send pics of it later on tonight if i can off of my video that i made.

Re: Hawk's 90 - 92 Shifter Plate Install - Indicator is off
I figured as much on that. would a window regulator off late 80s model Camaro swap over on my firebird. i know they are some what similar on a few things. but was not sure on the regulators. i tried to fix mine last night for what i had just laying around.
i had some regulators that i pulled out of our sebring and i had popped the sliders off of the rivet to fit on my regulator for my firebird. it worked but only issue was that the slider was a bit to big for the rivet so i took a washer and welded in front of it grinded it down smooth. I put the slider inside the track where the rollers would normally go. it worked, ran it up and down to make sure it wouldn't pop back out so i thought i had fixed the issue. today i went out put the door panel and all that back on and played with the window a few times to make sure it was going to hold it did for a little bit then popped back out of the track. so now im thinking possibly the regulator could be bent causing it not to stay in place in the track. i took the track out and it seemed to be normal. so maybe its just the regulator its self. so now the slider is sliding on the out side of the track.
