Camaro berlinetta 84 lighting
Here's the deal, once you put the bat cables on, even with the key off, the headlights and hazards stay on and there is no response from the lighting module next to the steering wheel. Please help

Re: Camaro berlinetta 84 lighting
I would try and disconnect the module and if they go out, replace module. If not start tracking down wires and see if something exposed or shorting

Re: Camaro berlinetta 84 lighting
the lighting module for the berlinetta is under the dash piggy backed on the ecm. a common failure point.

Re: Camaro berlinetta 84 lighting
nope. the lighting control module is independent of the ecm.

Re: Camaro berlinetta 84 lighting
OK but if it piggy backs off the ecm and the ecm is faulty could that cause issues? Also when I turn ignition on no start up lights come on the dash, no system check lights.

by piggy back, i meant that the module is attached to the ecm cover. pull down your passenger hush panel and you'll see it up there.

Here's a wiring diagram if you don't have one. Has this always been an issue or did this just start happening? I was wondering if something was wired wrong at the red fusible link that would cause it.

Re: Camaro berlinetta 84 lighting
that diagram doesn't look to be correct.
the relay box you refer to is the light control module. along with the relays it is filled with little electron pathways that control pretty much all of the lights.

Re: Camaro berlinetta 84 lighting
wish I could help more. failure of the control module is pretty common and the only fix I'm aware of is replacement.
john in RI may be able to help more, if he's come across a fix of some sort since this last came up.

Re: Camaro berlinetta 84 lighting
I have asked John and been waiting on a reply Scince before I posted this thread. All my relays are working properly. This has been going on since I bought this car a month ago. Shes a diamond in the rough as it's said. But will be worth it once it's done

Re: Camaro berlinetta 84 lighting
Only thing I could suggest is tracing the wires from the lights to their power source until you get further direction.

Re: Camaro berlinetta 84 lighting
Sorry so slow,..... It's been a full month since I've written ANY E-Mail or Web Forum Posts. I did see your PM's today Chris.
Penrod; The Berlinetta is a little different than the REGULAR Camaros. ( Ya'............ I said it !! )
Headlight Pod = Next to the Steering Wheel.
Light Module = Piggy-back to the ECM.
You have a Light Module Problem.
You also have a dash cluster Problem.
Chasing wires is often futile. The issues you describe are caused by circuits ( diodes, capacitors, relays, do-dads', what-ever. ) that are internal to the Cluster and internal to the Light Module. Even when you know what circuit is bad, it's not the wire itself,... it's the part at the end of the wire that needs replacement.
This is common LM problem. I've seen it before and have several dead modules on my shelf just like it. I believe your problem is in the Light Module at the "Circuit Breaker" connection @ the fusible Link "HOT" wire located on pin 'F' of plug C2.
The Systems Monitor is controlled by the circuit boards inside the cluster. If it doesn't run thru it's "start-up" sequence as it should than the problem is on a internal circuit board. The needle gauges, backlighting and digital readout can still all function normally when the Systems Monitor fails.
Here is the Light Module schematic; You can use it to check just about anything the Light Module controls.
Here is the cluster plug pin-out so you can probe there too......
Like I said, you can trace wires all day long and get nowhere,.... Get the parts tested, repaired &/or start searching for replacements.
