Wipers

The delay wiper cover on my '86 is broken. Long story short, the little rotating plastic Rube Goldberg piece of **** broke off when I was trying to troubleshoot things. I'm pretty sure the control board is bad anyway, even with a good connection.

Now that I have instructions on how to properly position that little plastic cam when reinstalling the cover, I'm going to try when I can find a new-er/ish cover.

When looking for a replacement...

How do I know if the wiper motor I've got is a 2-wire or 3-wire armature? (The connector on mine has 4 wires going in...is that even related?)

I can use any delay unit for an 84-87 Camaro, A-body, or Monte Carlo, yes?

Thanks for any help.

Re: Wipers

Ive used wiper covers from other mid 80s GM cars. The covers are the same on buicks/caddys/el caminos. So long as its also for intermittent wipers.

The motor has its own connector at the bottom, 2 wire i believe.

Re: Wipers

I believe correct part you need (for 84 anyway).

I watched ebay until I found it.

If you buy used, make sure you look at cover. I purchased several used motor/cover's from cars that had delay wiper switches that did not have correct cover installed.

Re: Wipers

That's the correct part number/ cover and electronics.

I was at a junkyard on Saturday, pulled a motor assembly off an '85 Firebird. Car had a delay wiper stalk, everything looked to be in good shape. Figured I was good.

Got the damn thing home, opened the cover, had clearly been replaced at some point with just a 2-speed motor setup and cover. Nothing inside of it except the grounding brackets.

On a positive note, the blank plastic cover allowed me to rebuild mine, which broke. But something about the board is still bad (can't get Mist to work, and delay only works on one setting, and there's a short somewhere)

If I find another one at a junkyard I'll be sure to pull the cover off to make sure it hasn't been replaced.

I've been watching eBay for 3 months.

These things are rare. Probably because they're junk and every single one of 'em has had problems by this point!

Re: Wipers

I think I watched ebay for over a year, but found a brand new one.

Re: Wipers

When the pin broke on mine, i was able to fix it by putting a small screw inplace of the pin.
I still find those covers at the JY, maybe I should start buying them.
