heater core most likely. Should be an easy replacement in the Pontiac.

Get yourself a heater core bypass hose for a temporary fix until you can replace the core. You'll have no heat, but it will get you down the road without a puddle of coolant on your passenger floor until you can have the core replaced.

Tip, get that anti freeze out of the carpet before it has a chance to stain. The jute padding is probebly wet also.

the core swap should take less than 30 minutes. most of that time is taken up by replacing the heater hoses going into the core. tomorrow is Saturday. why work on it twice?

Really? I assumed any of the 3rd gens. were a bear to do. Why is the Pontiac so much easier than the Camaro? I didn't think the dash shape was all that radically different.

Dave, Its true.
Once you pull down the panel under pass side and then the plastic trim panel by the pouch, you can get to the top screws to the core box. I thought the same. About a half hour. Now the Camaros, I beleive take like 13 days or sumtin like that!

Most any core you get these days is going to be aluminum. Do not let someone tell you different in that such part number at such place is the preferred (by some) brass piece. In each case it's likely simply old stock.
Just get a name brand piece from your local shop or order from RA if you have a few days.

It's not leaking today, but nothing lasts forever.

No, I do not like taking things apart. I would love to just drive and enjoy the car and never have to turn a wrench. But that's not the nature of old car ownership.
And as for that side of the dash...I just had it all apart! I hope to NOT be going back in anytime soon.

Re: coolant leaking on passenger side floor??
I had a similar problem with my 88 RS about 14 yrs ago, changed out core not that bad a job, BUT the next summer when on a trip to San Antone when the weather got hot when
getting in car n morning was bad the "aroma" from that leaked coolant created an
awful smell and at the time never thought what could be cause, looked for a rodent that
had got in and passed on . took quite awhile to get that smell out.
