What did you think of the idea of contacting SUNOCO to see if they might have some interest in the build?

Re: 1990 1LE Trans Am 1 of 4 FOUND
So....the decals are on!
Went to pick it up Monday and nothing had been done - not a huge deal but they're 1.5-2 hours away from me! Agreed to grab it yesterday and so I got there early. Decals were of excellent quality but the placement and alignment of them was nowhere near where it should have been or followed the instructions I had left them.
So we did them over...
To their credit, when they are lettering the race cars in the area, they don't have to match anything from a grainy picture from 25 years ago.
Jim Crist had sent up his signature for us to reproduce on the roof as well. Pretty happy with the results.
Once I had it loaded I sent Jim some pictures - this was his response.

It looks really cool with all the decals and paint back on it. Best part is that it's a race car, but also a REAL car, not some tube chassis with a cartoon interpretation of body panels. Not to mention it's a lot nicer and cleaner than most cars that actually get raced. Good job!

Thanks guys!
Now that the car is done it's going to be heading to the Max Performance/Pypes Exhaust cruise & show this weekend in Hatfield, PA for it's debut.

Official video of last year's show - you might see my white 1LE Z28 in there somewhere.

So glad you found/ended up with this car Chris. Not many would have been able to or gone to such a degree to bring her back to this condition. A true work of art. You got all of us "Drooling". Wish I could make it out to see it.

Will you be painting your "Grill Inserts" yellow, as in the picture? Those rear hatch bars on the glass would be easy enough to redo also. Just my . ED
Bird looked awesome. Took bad most people didn't have the slightest clue as to what they were looking at. You need an event at Lime Rock to showcase this and maybe contact some of the racing magazines to see about a write-up article.

Don Keefe from Poncho Perfection Magazine will be doing an article on the car - although I've known Don for years, he approached me at the show to get more details and we'll be setting up the photo shoot soon. Although it's a full-on race car I think it will bring a lot of attention to third gens and Don says the timing is perfect as they start to jump - he's very excited about it.
As for the other parts of the car - the air ducting is different now than it was back when the car was first run and I don't think I'll be duplicating the yellow inserts for now. The back glass braces also show yellow paint on them but Jim Crist said they weren't painted yellow when he had the car, so we left them black.
A good friend of mine surprised me with the perfect license plate frame for the car on Friday and helped me mount it. Pic of the post show action out back - the car can git!

Great news for you on the upcoming magazine article. Don came up to me at the PYPES show and asked about my 1989 TTA drag test against a 1965 TriPower GTO that he and HPP had set up at Raceway Park. It was really cool that he remembered me and all the hate mail they received from the GTO owners.
By the way, the GTO got destroyed!

It is the only Pontiac specific magazine in publication. Don started it last year first as an on-line endeavor but is now in print with I believe 7 issues through the press already. He has the best writers from High Performance Pontiac and Musclecar Review on staff.

Interesting. I enjoyed Don's articles in Smoke Signals. But I also enjoy Smoke Signals as currently constituted, too. I'll have to check out ponchoperfection.com.

WE'RE GOING TO LIME ROCK!
Don asked me to take care of the photos for the article and I have a great friend who shoots professionally in the entertainment industry who's agreed to help out.
I reached out to Lime Rock Park & the Monticello Motorsports Club to see about using their facilities for the shoot & they both agreed! So....mid week next week, we'll be shooting pics of the car on the track at Lime Rock!

Re: 1990 1LE Trans Am 1 of 4 FOUND
Last year, (the company I was working for) as part of the IMPA Event, where most of the major writers and magazine wanabees, get the chance (over 2 days ) to take a car of their dreams (such as Mercedes Benz-Audi R8-Corvettes-Jaguar F-Type-Hellcats etc.) around the Monticello Motorsports Club. It is a VERY modern and professional road course. I had the blast of my life when I had the chance to do a lap with a Fiat Abarth. Loudest lawn mower ever made, but boy could that bitch handle.
If you got an offer to do this track, TAKE IT. It has a straight away that will really let it hang out.

It was a beautiful morning at Lime Rock Park and Rick Roso could not have been a more accommodating host. Hannah shot over 100 images and has shared a few with me already...the first couple of them are mine showing the shoot.
I've always said that cars are a collection of stories - today was a great one for the car & for me!
