Windshield wiper motor cover. Found my problem

So i bought this car a few years ago and have been redoing it. I finally got around to fixing the windshield wipers. The windshield wipers won't turn off until I turn the car off so I read about the motor cover and decided to
take it off and look. You guys see any problems lol. Any idea on how to get one?

Re: Windshield wiper motor cover. Found my problem

You still have the wheel that was on there? Otherwise, ebay or classifieds.
I was able to fix mine by drilling out the center of the base below the circuit board. You just drill it the same size as the pin that broke off, then put a small bolt to hold the wheel on.

I'm having the same type of issue of them not turning off, but it's intermittent. Not familiar with the motor cover problem or the wheel you're talking about either. Can you enlighten me please?

The cover that goes over the windshield wiper motor controls the intermediate wipers and the ability to shut them off. If you take the cover off you will see what wheel we are talking about. It's what tells the wipers to shut off and go to there off position. It mite be a broken Sauder joint.

Thanks Dodgeman79, you get yours fixed yet? Is there a broken solder joint or run in your picture above?

Re: Windshield wiper motor cover. Found my problem

After looking at your picture again more closely, it appears that the cover was "glued" on. Is the cover easy to access and get off? In Kuwait and don't have access to my service manual at the moment.

I did get mine fixed I had to find a new cover from a junk yard. The piece of plastic that holds the wheel on is made into the cover not the bourd. And that is where mine is broken. They have some sealant that holds them on but it's mostly just held in with 3 screws. When you take it off don't forget to put sealant back on so water doesn't get in there.

I also had a few broke Sauder jojnts so I went ahead and fixed those also

Re: Windshield wiper motor cover. Found my problem

Is the wheel "mounted" in the hole in the center of the circuit board?

Correct. If you take the cover off make sure the wheel is back where it's suppose to be. I had a picture showing this but can't find it. I'll go look and if I find it I'll post it on here

So the cam is the actual piece that becomes disconnected, correct?

Re: Windshield wiper motor cover. Found my problem

This is how I fixed mine after the pin broke.Thats where you position the arm, so its under the pin on the wiper gear.

Skip91, if this is on your '91, the cover was redesigned. See this thread for what to expect:

Re: Windshield wiper motor cover. Found my problem

Going by his pic, looks like the early type, but yes. I think 88 was a change to remote mounted washer pump, plus the weather pack style connector. Which moved to the opposite side.
The orientation of the wheel/arm should be the same though.

Re: Windshield wiper motor cover. Found my problem

RBob,

Yes, for my '91. Brother, thanks so much for looking out for me. Had no idea is was a different set up. Added your link to my favorites.

Will add to my "to do" list. This goes along with my 4th Gen washer fluid reservoir / coolant overflow installation and reverse light switch alignment as it does not work.
